Thank you very much for your kind thoughts. My DS has given me a book by Virginia Ironside called 'You'll Get Over It' (tongue in cheek title) which is helping me understand my own feelings, as are all your lovely words.

I've been busy clearing out the house prior to a car boot sale, not that it will be this weekend if the weather doesn't improve, and I'm surprised at the amount of 'things' I've accumulated over the years, some of which are still in their boxes. Awful I know but having to clear DM's home has made me look at my own, and realise I have to do something about it while I'm fit and healthy enough.

Hopefully I can raise a few £'s towards my NZ trip from their sale, every little helps! :)

This time last year I lost my dad. The following weeks I had to empty his house as the house was put up for sale and had already attracted a lot of interest. These were stressful weeks guilty for throwing away stuff that had belonged to my parents. Sentimental stuff which I didn't have room for in my house and just amazed at how much stuff there was, yet my dad was not a hoarder. I have already warned my MIL to have a look at what she has, I dread to think what there is cos she doesn't throw anything away. Told her to sell stuff and treat herself. She has told me she has coffee tables and small cabinets in her loft. How the h**l has she got them up there in the first place,x

  • I did sign up at the start of the year but haven't been exactly frugal for some months. I still read though, and now reading of Sparrer's news I wanted to post and say I am so sorry for your loss Sparrer XXX you are in my thoughts XX
    Nevertheless she persisted.

    Hi Everyone,

I'm hoping its ok to join in with this thread even though its halfway through the year!

I have some debt I'm trying to clear (around £5800) and have been gradually trying to adopt a more and more frugal lifestyle over the last few months so that I can pay as much as possible off the debts each month.

It's great to read everyone's tips and hear about your lives as well.
Here are a few frugal things I've done this month:

-Reduced my monthly donation to charity from £5 to £2.
-Changed to a lower tariff when renewing my mobile contract (from £16 a month to £13 a month)
-Used Morrison's vouchers in the Sun to stockpile meat/fish
-Stopped taking cards out with me every day, usually now I just carry cash so when its gone, its gone!

Looking forward to reading more of the thread! :)
    Starting 2016 debt-free :D

My mobile contract has run out and so have reduced it from £42 a month to £13 a month. I am looking at cutting it further to a longer contract that will only cost me £7 a month but will require a 12 month contract. So I will decide soon enough.

I am also limiting myself to using up food stocks and limiting the amount I spend over the next three months to less than £120. So far I have done well so think it can be done.
It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.
  • Just walked 3.8km and taken an hour trying to find a Mirror today for the Aldi voucher - can't decide whether or not that classes as just plain stupid or frugal!!! LOL. Apparently there is a print run shortage!
