Virgin Media putting a set price up

Hi all,
I know this may sound obvious to some but I need a bit if help with VM. I signed up to a £35 pm contract locked in for one year but price locked only for 2 years. 9 months into contract they put price up to £43 pm and also gave just sent letter to say will be going up again. I have rung several times to complain but they say in their t&c'c they can do that, can they?
I'd be more than willing to get rid of the phone, and the telly package after Christmas but don't want to loose the broadband as don't want to sign up with anyone else as hopefully moving early next year.

Since the only sanction you could take is to leave (and you don't want to do this) then you are rather snookered. You could threaten to leave and see if they offer any discount. Cancelling part of your bundle of services (phone & TV), however, is usually almost as expensive as the heavily discounted bundle price for all three.0 -
If you don't kick off, you can exercise your right to cancel. And with a little persuasion they will add a credit to your account for 12 months to cover the increase, but it will put you on a new minimum term.0

Oh I know...but you know, Virgin will have another price rise before the 12 months are up and you can call and cancel then too!

You could always try and get the discount and ensure no contract extension occurs, had one of them before....0 -
I was not happy about this either and phoned them up, told them I wasn't happy with the service either and they have waived the increase. I have Tivo HD and M+ package. To be fair I have been with them for years but I was not happy about this increase for what is 6 channels I wouldn't watch.0

Just be glad you didn't sign up to Sky who had it written into their contracts that only price rises over 10% allowed a cancellation during the minimum term. Thankfully the regulator has now closed that loophole for ALL providers.
Still won't stop the prices rising, of course!0 -

But you didn't 'agree a price'. It's not a fixed price contract. The price at the time you contracted was £x, and now it's increasing to £y, as is alowed under the T&C's. You can reject the increase and cancel the service now without penalty if you wish.
Cancelling the phone now is fairly pointless, because you're only 9m in and will be charged an ETC if you do. See out your minimum term if you are not going to cancel on the basis of rejecting the price increase.No free lunch, and no free laptop

Yes, the OP can only cancel all of his services due to the price increase-he cannot pick and choose which he wants to keep. Given the circumstances, Virgin might waive the Early Termination of Contract (ETC) fee, but I don't think the OP will find himself making any significant saving because his remaining services will no longer be part of a subsidised "bundle".Cancelling the phone now is fairly pointless, because you're only 9 months in and will be charged an ETC if you do. Maybe so , but VM , SKY etc are more than happy to use the price as the bait , so it seems fair to me to be able to have a good whinge when they whack it up soon after signing upNever, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.0
