Virgin Media putting a set price up
Comments

Maybe so , but VM , SKY etc are more than happy to use the price as the bait , so it seems fair to me to be able to have a good whinge when they whack it up soon after signing up
But, assuming an annual price increase (at the least), then around 8% of new customers are going to have an increase announced within a month of signing up, and 72% within 9 months.
They don't 'whack the price up' a fixed period after you sign up, they do it periodically for everyone.
It's like people complaining about a price cut the day after they buy something-it's the way it is.No free lunch, and no free laptop

i am not sure if this has been discussed before.
since they(VM) are giving great offers for new customers, can I cancel my current Virgin media account and then take a new one under spouse name to save some ££? can they find out? are there any other considerations? Has anyone tried this before.
ps. - i understand that we will be tied into a new contract for 12/18 months if we do this (given its doable).0 -
Since they know exactly which homes they have cabled now and in the past I'm certain it would be a foregone conclusion that they would "find out".trepxEgnivaS wrote: »can I cancel my current Virgin media account and then take a new one under spouse name to save some ££? can they find out?
If you did this all they would do is reinstate your existing subscription which would only be cheaper if you took less services from them.
Basically, you have to leave for at least six months (a year with Sky) before you and your your home is considered as a new customer with the attendant deals.0 -
Hi there,
I am currently with Virgin for my Tv, Phone and Broadband and have the essential package for £57 pound a month where I have recently come out of the 12 month contract but still receiving the services.
I would be really grateful if anyone could provide assistance In what best deals are out there at present.
As a family we use the Tv package and broadband regularly but do not use the landlines as much due to us having mobile contracts.
If anyone could assist in what the best deals are I'd be really grateful.0 -
Actually, this is what I meant:Moneyineptitude wrote: »If you did this all they would do is reinstate your existing subscription which would only be cheaper if you took less services from them.

Step 1. Leave them saying, I am moving out of home
Step 2. Take New connection from them in Spouse's name saying we have recently moved in.
Its more of a moral dilemma.. and the matter if they can really figure it out.0 -

But if you're in a current deal, they do state they will honour it.
Mine is locked for 2 years from last April

Just be glad you didn't sign up to Sky who had it written into their contracts that only price rises over 10% allowed a cancellation during the minimum term. Thankfully the regulator has now closed that loophole for ALL providers.
Still won't stop the prices rising, of course!
Prices of anything to do with electronics are falling sharply every year.
Wages are very static.
So why are "costs rising on everything" ?0 -
The cost of running Sky TV involves rather more than the purchase of some electronics...wages may be static, but most other costs are rising. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Fine, if you actually move out of your home.trepxEgnivaS wrote: »Step 1. Leave them saying, I am moving out of home.
Is your spouse going to be paying from her Bank account? Is her surname the same as yours? Unless you are both Smith or Jones that's going to be some coincidence.trepxEgnivaS wrote: »Step 2. Then after a week or so, take New connection from them in Spouse's name saying we have recently moved in.
Your intended dishonesty (as long as you can't get caught) is not really something to ask advice about on a public forum.trepxEgnivaS wrote: »Its more of a moral dilemma.. and the matter if they can really figure it out.0
