I honestly don't think anyone here has been harsh - I think people have been more than willing to offer you realistic advice with the limited information you have supplied, but you don't seem to want to help yourself and seem a little bit in denial about your situation. Until you can face the reality of your predicament and accept YOU need to make some some massive changes, you will just keep going further and further into debt. Again, I'm not trying to sound harsh/judgmental, I've also been in a place where my head was firmly buried in the sand but you have to realize a lot of things for yourself, no-one here can wave a magic wand and fix anything for you. Good luck x

  • I totally agree. No one here is being harsh. You just dont want to hear what they are saying.
You and your husband need to both wake up and face this TOGETHER.
No one hear can force you to do anything but closing your account and burying your head back in the sand waiting for someone to wave a magic wand is only going to end one way and one thing I can be certain of is it wont be a pleasant end to your story.
  • One solution no one has suggested and if struggling does pop back here then it is worth considering. There are over £200,000 of assests available and with a house worth over £300K and a mortgage of just £71K then there is potential to downsize, clear debts and start again. Saves a DMP and bad credit history. Perhaps gives peace of mind. Not an easy thing to do I appreciate but worthy I believe of consideration.

I suspect OP isn't checking back for advice now...

    However, if she is then

eBay is a good option to sell unwanted items and make some cash.
meal-planning helps to keep grocery shopping to a minimum
checking frozen and canned/packet foods often throws up a surprising amount of food that can be incorporated into meal planning to reduce grocery bills

I suspect that the OP can't talk openly to OH or relatives about money, and she thought this forum would help. The straight talking isn't always easy to hear when emotionally charged by worry. I heard a lot of distress behind her post.

OP, I hope you feel strong enough soon to come back for advice?
What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?
  • I feel like you need some specialist advice to appeal the benefits health wise? Maybe the benefits board on here can help? or maybe you have a DIAL or maybe your local CAB can help with this.

  • I feel somewhat guilty....as one of the more blunt contributors to this thread...

However, with limited advice and limited willingness to change the situation and blinkers (he has a good job) there was not much that could be done...

I hope they sort out their problems before it is too late

I only came back on for the grocery challenges not for any personal advice.

However, things have changed and I have been told due to the lack of payment for the internet and my mobile phone, they will all be disconnected tomorrow. I have been ignoring the letters and emails they have been sending.

Therefore, I will not be around for the indefinite future as I will have no access to anything. I won't be able to join in the February grocery challenge either

If you house is worth 301k, I would sell it, buy another house for 200k, clear your mortgage and unsecured debt and start again

I can't help but think if you had followed the initial advice given, the situation you are now in would not be happening. Until you take your head out of the sand, things will only get worse. This is not said to make you feel bad, but to try to make you wake up to your reality. You seem more upset about losing access to the grocery challenge which is not going make a big difference, losing your communication facilities is nothing compared to losing your house. You have now proved to yourself ignoring things have far reaching consequences. Please consider very carefully your next moves.

All the best for the future
