My dress was from M&S in the sales. It was a simple full length ivory dress and I got so many complements. It cost me £75. We married in a registry office that was located in a beautiful park, it gave us the photos you'd get on a country estate location but at registry office prices. We had our reception in a nearby restaurant in a private room and kept the list to very close friends and family only (about 30 guests I think). My bridesmaids bought their own dresses, in fact I only saw them on the day. Father in Law did the photography (he's a magazine photographer). One tier chocolate cake given as a wedding gift as was honeymoon, which was weekend break in Manchester (guests gave cash rather than us registering)0

We self catered at home with help from friends, borrowing chairs and tables from the local primary school and church hall. We had a 3 course sit down meal with a 3 tier cake bought with pillars from a supermarket. We had some flowers and used them at Register Office and at home. Took taxi there and got lift back with various friends. Friend helped with hair. Bought 2 dresses from Monsoon 1 for evening party also at home. 1 bridesmaid with dress from Monsoon also. Friend who's a keen photographer did the photos. So the only expenses were the dresses, cost of the Register Office, flowers and food. Oh and we paid for a children's craft session after the meal to keep them occupied while the grown ups enjoyed drinks and chat. (Children were banned for the evening party). So under a thousand pounds in today's money I guess. Both your weddings sound fab! I looked in a registry office in a park myself. Was lovely.
So I done as much of the money makeover as possible around a baby. A lot more to it then their looks. I discovered we are entitled to help with rent & council tax. Filling a form out for that online later. Also probably able to get watersure with our water supplier. Is if possible to get council tax /housing benefit backdated?
My partner has also got hold of his correct tax number.
Am now onto the 'painful savings' part. It is a long process.0 -
Verbatim. X posts with you. Yours sound lovely. Congratulations!0

They will usually only backdate for 3 months but you have to have a good reason for not claiming sooner!Grocery Challenge 2024

I'm not sure I wold get in touch with the debt companies just yet. Yes it's important to get in touch with them but I think you need to be a bit sensible about it.
Any debts that haven't been paid for a clear period of 6 years become statute barred. This means that technically they still exist but a creditor can't chase you for them. If you get in touch with them you may run the risk of restarting the 6 year clock. Once you have gone past 6 years then getting in touch with them does not restart the clock but if you haven't gone a full 6 years then it will restart the clock.
You have 3 credit files. Experian, Equifax and Call Credit. Different lenders will report to different credit files. After 6 years from a default then they will drop off your credit file (or should).
With debts that are 'live' and you have been in contact with in the last 6 years - either made a payment to or have written to then I would send them a holding letter, basically a letter saying " I'm having a few problems right now but I'm seeking advice. Please put my account on hold whilst I get some proper advice. Here's a 1 pound token gesture to prove I'm trying my best." I'm sure someone will find you a letter you can send.
Overall with your level of debt and the fact that you have virtually nothing to repay your debts with at the present time you would appear to be a prime candidate for a DRO.
You may find it useful to speak to someone at National Debtline or StepChange or your local CAB to consider this.

Unfortunately there isn't enough money to go around and people are having to make some cutbacks
Hopefully with the extra money not being taken in tax and some more benefits and some thrifty shopping you will be able to balance the books.
In terms of HMRC I would try and get hold of them as soon as possible. They may be able to sort it out over the phone but may ask you to write in with all the details. If they get it sorted quickly and get you a new tax code and get it passed on to your employer then you should get back any overpayment in Mar just before the end of the tax year. If it doesn't get sorted by Mar you will have to wait for them to send you a cheque so this needs to be chased up fairly urgently. You will of course eventually get the money back but sooner rather than later would be much better
