    Good luck Masomnia!

Didn't see the Brits - was out until 10pm and have spent the last couple of hours frustrated at my new phone, which I seem to have done something wrong to.

When I first got it, you swiped the home screen to the right, to get access to the list of Apps and Widgets. The manual says you do this. However, whatever has happened to the phone means that when you swipe left or right you just get a blank screen.

I've tried a factory reset but it hasn't solved it.

Posted in the Phones forum so we'll see if anyone has any ideas but otherwise I'm not sure what else to try. grr.

I'm pretty sure it is. They have all the qualified trades as well as a designer and I've seen building inspectors and so forth on the program. Oliver Heath is a retrofit specialist these days - zero carbon etc.

One of the programs was about a poster on MSE who was pretty much suicidal when he posted on the In My Home board. A group of MSErs nominated him for the program and then travelled to help a bit with the build.

Phew! Thanks Doozer. Watching TV with her is one of the ways I can make her feel she's getting attention without depleting my energy reserves any further. The shows she likes to watch vary quite a lot in terms of how willing I am to sit through them, and DIY SOS is usually one of the ones I'm happier about, although we both agree the later ones (longer and more serious) are much better than the earlier series (in which they spend a lot of time mucking about and not much attention is given to the actual work). I didn't want to have my attitude to it wrecked.
Yeah, I think you're right. Another case of trying to help someone and ending up having to sort out a bloody nightmare.

How frustrating for you. :( Hope things work out for you and for the person. :)

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

Got an assessment centre for a graduate job next week :D

It's the final stage. Six people, two jobs. I like my odds!

I've booked my train, and booked a nice little pub/hotel for the night before, and I'm actually really looking forward to it.

Got a good feeling about this one :)

Hope you have a lovely time on the assessment centre, and end up getting the job. :)
Best of luck for the job!

All this branded stuff reminds me of this entry in a barristers' legal dictionary:

    AGM

A democratic forum by which members of chambers can heatedly debate the quality of chambers biscuits and the colour of chamber’s branded pencils; thereby allowing the CMC (see below) to take all important decisions.

The one my clerks most took to in the list was:

    Fees Clerks

A counselling service for solicitors, to unburden their tales of woe and stories about how they are so poor their children have to eat mud for breakfast.

Love it. Is the whole dictionary written in that kind of vein, or just a few select entries?
Just to let you know I just dropped MK a line and said there was no pressure to reply just to know we were thinking of her and wishing her well. :)

    Thanks lir. :)

    That was quick.

She says I am to return best wishes (she means in a nice way, its a nice email, not throwing them back in our faces;)) and she misses us too. :)

    :):):):):) Glad she's OK.

DH gets some really nice corporate stuff. My favourite are little paperclips in the shape of aeroplanes from Boeing. Most corporate gifts are naff mind. I do like the pens though. Means never having to buy my own. I'd like to get olive oil like silver. That would be very practical.

My dad's main medium sized bag is a briefcase-sized soft canvas bag with a shoulder strap and the name and details of some long forgotten conference all over it. I think he's had it for more than 20 years now, and is still using it every time he goes anywhere.

I have a set of Airbus fridge magnets somewhere - one of each member of the Airbus fleet, all drawn to the same scale. Everyone in my family has the same set, having been given them as presents by my youngest brother, who works for them.

Silvers things definitely sound the best!

I have posted about the corporate gifts OH receives before *shudder*

I get very little in the way of corporate freebies, but I do get presents from grateful clients, often including alcohol. There is a case of 12 bottles of something in Chambers awaiting my working out a way to lug it home, and another box with coffee, chocolate and biscuits.

It's a short, and not very serious, thing. But entirely true, in every respect. Includes, for example:

    Conference

A meeting where the barrister pretends to have read the papers, the solicitor pretends to be interested in what the barrister says and the client produces a story from the Daily Mail demanding to know why his case is not being treated in the same way.

    Mediation

    A Mexican stand-off with biscuits.

...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.

Cheers zagubov. Not heard that one.

Here's something I came across whilst messing about from that link:

I realise Ike Turner has fallen away in popularity for fairly obvious reasons, mostly his being a complete [insert noun of choice]. This remains a classic track IMHO.

Glorious weather here today following a couple of absolute stinkers: 'twas really hot and muggy for the last 2 days. The summer is clearly winding down though: I need sunnies in the morning and evening as the lower sun hurts my eyes and the evenings are starting just to get a little cooler.
