Or, MSE style, you could use drawing pins to affix sturdy rubber bands to the wall and do it that way
I hate the way the whole vacuum pipe and handle thingy rarely stay in place unless you've got some posh vacuum that has a slot to keep them steady. So you put the vacuum down and all the pipe/head fall all over the place.... then you shut the door quickly ...
Its an upright vacuum so stands up on its own, as does the steam mop0 -
... the steam mop
It was borrowed when I bought my house in 2000 to steam clean the floors once when I bought it.... but it was really not very good. It had big pads to fit on the bottom, which got dirty, but were quite nasty looking .....
Is yours any good?
Sometimes I awaken at about 3-4am and the telly's on one of those shopping channels with the continuous long adverts for steam mops etc.... and they make out you can clean everything with them easily .... not convinced it'd be that easy in reality. I'd also be petrified to steam clean glass as I'd assume it'd shatter.0 -

It's turned cold - and windy. The wind is battering things outside, so I can hear occasional banging.... one thing I like about not owning a home is when there's bad weather and I don't have to stress about the roof or things blowing down (e.g. trees or fences).0

First I get nekkid, then tipped some bicarb of soda into a small plastic pot (ex cheesecake pot) ... and got a sponge/scrubber .... then stood nekkid in the shower enclosure holding the door closed while sponging all the enclosure insides .... then I turned on the shower head and used the cold water as it was heating up to rinse off, before putting the shower head into the wall holster and having my shower
Two jobs done.
I clean showers from within too generally. It seems the best way. Otherwise you just end up wet and clothed I find.0 -
Ok, lir made me feel bad so I felt I needed to properly complete the task and take the rubbish out to the wheelie bin rather than having the bags on display in the kitchen. Then figured I should vacuum the house and steam mop the kitchen before putting the vacuum cleaner and steam mop into their new home under the stairs.
Done.
Edit: lir, plea
se stop! Cleaning the bathroom in on the list for tomorrow. And now I'll feel extra bad if I don't do it!
No, I cannot. What you should do to remember is this is the work I should be doing mon to fri and am slacking..
So, clean as the old rotting bathroom gets these days and still be thorned. I'm going to have to dig around for them, yuck.0 -

Right....now I am going to go and clean the bathroom and hope that makes the rose thorns I have got in my fingers come out. Times like now is when I wish we had plentiful hot water!
Oh that's disappointing. In my mind a cat fountain in casa lir should at the very least look like this:

I am food fail. I have the usual uninspired food .... or I can go to Lidl and buy some frozen chips .... it's cold/dark/windy out there.... and if I go to Lidl I'd no doubt "treat" myself to a totally unnecessary 3-pack of individual cheesecakes....
So ... find uninspired food in cupboards and just make something that's edible? Or, go out, to Lidl, get frozen chips and come back to serve those with some instant curry sauce.
Although, actually, I have spuds.... I could make myself some chips .... that'd be the best way forward. Need to use up the spuds in the next week ....
Need to do the washing up first though ... run out of plates
At least that will warm my frozen hands up though.
Homemade oven-baked chips and curry sauce it is then...
Edit 6.12pm: Done the washing up, must have been 4 days' worth there!
Edit 6.32pm: Spuds are in the oven, all newly created washing up's been done.0 -

That would be much better. Ours is an older version of this

Well, I need to use the fact that I work mon-Fri as less if an excuse to be lazy at the weekend. I need to get on top of the house before spring, when I will have to start dealing with the garden!
Steam mop: ok, but not life changing. It took hands and knees and soapy water to get the kitchen floor clean when I moved in. The steam mop does a good job of keeping it clean now. Saves on boiling a kettle to use a traditional mop and bucket anyway. Plus no dirty water to get rid of. I only got it because of the thing on grabbit where they were giving out vax ones instead of the cheaper Argos brand, and I had enough nectar points to get it 'free'. Not sure whether I'd pay for another one though.0
