New business solution would be to create runs on screens displayed in front of people on machines ... you can pick a pre-programmed run, or even upload your own local run that you'd captured on a head cam :)

Images move at the same pace as you're running.... but it's never dark and never rains :)

We have a cycling game on the Wii that is like that (except you sit on an exercise bike nort run on a treadmill). I feel motion sick within 90 seconds.
    I think....

Ah, is that the one I'm thinking of. :o. We don't have a bike?

Hmm, for cycling I think we just......run on the spot!

I'm probably being more than a little stupid, :o but can anyone clarify how this will work, as although I'm not affected, someone I've provided a bridging loan for, will.

A second property was bought begging of December 2012, so 16 months will be running as at 5th April 2014. Do they have to sell the Property by June this year, or do they get the benefit of another 18 months running from 5th April?

    Thank you NP

Sounds like there are two properties and the person ceased living I one and started living in the other?

If that is the case then there is no 36 or 18 month period of grace - PRR ceases to apply to the first property from the date that the person moved into the second property.

Is the first property now let out or is it unoccupied?

Hello , I've missed you! You ok?

I thought DH and I had a croquet set some where but I haven't found it. Its possible I gave it away :o. I 'd like it now. Well, not NOw but, now we are settled.

Lemon jelly is all about bowls .

Ah just fine thank you. I've been knocking about, but every time I looked at the NP thread, I had about 10 pages to catch up on, by then I had to go and do some real work. Of which there is too much - a certain government department have completely arbitrarily changed the rules for shifting their kit and it'll be rather a lot of money to spend potentially. On the plus side, the DoT audited us for a specific part of our business and it's fair to say, we are all feeling the love:p

When you are running outside the wind cools you down. This doesn't happen on a treadmill so you need to solve that problem. Some treadmill manufacturers put a small fan on top but this doesn't make any tangible difference to the overheating issues. Well not for me anyway!

Fwiw, DH totally prefers treadmill. We are so different at times! (However its good he does, psoriasis often goes hand in hand with developing arthritis quite aggressively later, so things like making sure his work is not overly concussive are good things to think about at the back of the mind, treadmills and warm, safe work out environments are a better bet for him than road running IMO)

He likes to plug in his music thingy and run. He also really likes longer runs where is I have always found stamina difficult .....I'm all fast twitch muscle. :D. Polo chukka length stamina. Running was always the most challenging thing I did because pacing is ALWAYS difficult for me. Typically me I'd try to turn the thing into a interval training thing often, rather than set a steady pace, which is also sometimes important.

Hope lydia and viva are doing ok.

I just want this lump hacked out now. Sick of it as it's been hurting every since the biopsy. The weather's crap too. And my back hurts. And my boss is being a pest. Beggur it all :(.

Anyhoo, enough moaning. As long as I've got my health....ah.

On a brighter note I'm dog sitting this weekend. No wife, no kids. Just me and a good book and a dog. I was meant to do this a while back but some loony killed a nurse or something which meant no dog sitting, albeit indirectly.

Thanks Gen. :) I'm not too bad today.

How much longer have you got to wait for the lump removal now? Hope it stops hurting.

Hope you have a lovely time with the book and the dog, too. Dogs are great. I miss Avatar Dog. On the plus side, my friend (the one who bought the house next door) is very keen for us to get a dog - I think she wants the company when walking theirs - and is suggesting that when we eventually get ours we should have various dog-care-sharing arrangements. I've been promising DD for ages that we will get one when I am better enough to take on the responsibility, but if next door are taking that attitude, then it lowers the bar a bit as far as how much better is "better enough". We still won't be getting a dog within the lifetime of this hamster, though.
Michaels is right on the changes to PRR - https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/264601/13._Capital_gains_tax_private_residence_relief_final_period_relief.pdf

I hadn't heard of this and it is only recently announced - to come into force this April. It says there is an exemption for those moving into care but the situation Lydia described probably doesn't meet the HMRC's definition of what care is.

Any gain is calculated straight line (ie if you own for 10 years but move out after 8, with an 18 month 'grace' period 1/20th of the total gain would be subject to CGT - annual CGT allowance would apply in the year of sale though).

Doesn't sound so bad. He may manage to sell within the 18 months, but even if he's out of time by, say, a whole year (which I hope he wouldn't be) and even if he's got no CGT allowance left (which I think is unlikely) the CGT bill would only be nasty rather than totally crippling. Suppose he sells for £552,400 (a gain of £550,000) having owned the house for 55 years (to make the numbers nice and round). That would only by CGT on £10,000. I had had momentary fears of CGT being levied on the whole £550,000.

You also get a CGT allowance, if not used elsewhere, that is currently just over 10k.

Also, if it was let for a year then you can access letting relief as well. Complicated calculation that can net another 40k allowance. If you don't need to use this I don't know whether it is worth the hassle (and possible investigation) of now declaring that it was let for a year in the seventies.

I have a feeling they also let it for a year or so in the early 60s, but I wasn't around, so I'm a bit hazy on the details. He will want to declare anything that ought to be declared as a point of principle - he's like that. He'll have used up at least some of hiis CGT allowance, but I've no idea how much. However, according to the division of labour between the four of us, helping him with that kind of thing is the responsibility of my eldest brother. I have other responsibilities - internet banking, for example, also visiting him more frequently than anyone else can manage, and a few other things.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

I know it's extra expense.... but you're wealthy enough to pay for this solution.....

Investigate local storage units. Rent 2-3 of them, giving you space to get around and sort things out properly. Get some cheap metal garage racking type of shelving and put those in a couple of the units - so you can get at things. Have one that's for furniture.

Then, de-junk the house into the storage units.... then you can treat the two operations separately and manage them concurrently more easily.

If you had one for furniture and small/random items ... and another one for boxes of paperwork, boxes of crockery, boxes of ... stuff... and a 3rd unit if you need it.

Good shelves will mean it's not so daunting as a stack of boxes where the one you want is at the bottom.

Unless you can get one, large, unit that makes it more cost effective.

Thanks PN. Will bear that in mind when it comes to the point. :)

I think we have office on 2 PCs about 2000 or 2002, I think you can open most versions if you install the appropriate add ons? The netbook I am using borrowed from work should have it but the HD died and it didn't come with office disks so no way of reinstalling. With old office that has reached it's install limit is it not possible to get microsoft to allow more installs via customer services?

I've looked into that, and yes, apparently you can get them to allow more. :) Now I just have to find the discs (which I can't remember seeing since we moved house).

I'll look into add ons for DS - that would help a lot. Thanks. :)
