It's not too bad where I am, weather wise, but decided to leave the bike at work and walk home instead. Now have sore feet and some blisters (boots not made for walking) but at least I was safe. Will wear walking boots to go back in tomorrow morning.
Was supposed to go out this evening but with gusts of (only) 60 mph and the police advising against travel, I decided not to go. Have stayed indoors with the heating on, wearing dressing gown, with hot water bottle, BBC Red Button and laptop. Mmm.
Hope you're managing to shuffle things around, Gen. Fingers crossed for all NPs and their families in the areas affected by floods and dramatic winds.0 -

Isn't that how Cap'n Jack Sparrow escaped having been marooned by the mutinous crew of the black pearl?
Here is the dilemma. Last year a lot of clubcard accounts were hacked and vouchers stolen (probably an inside job but Tesco have kept it hushed up). Tesco refunded everyone when notified but only on the next clubcard mailing. I wanted to buy something using the double up promotion before christmas so they said they would send me a Tesco gift card with the money on instead as they could not reissue the points vouchers until then next mailing. Fast forward to the latest mailing and they have recredited all the stolen points (150 quid) but I still have the gift card. Moral dilemma is should I let them know or just accept that some days you get lucky?I think....0 -
BBC2 now is "Inside Number 9". It appears to a comedy without any speech. Two incompetent criminals are trying to rob Denis Lawson's house, yet the people in the house keep failing to spot them owing to mishaps along the way.
It says there is adult humour in the TV guide, so not sure what that's about but it's quite entertaining so far.0 -

Phew. Terrible though things are does anyone else not think they are a little over-hyped. Flooding was much worse 7 years ago and the destruction from the storms in 90 and 87 was 100x times worse.....but then until a few years ago the met office did not issue a weather warning every time the weather was anything but mild and slightly overcast (was going to say mild and sunny but of course sunny gets a warning too these days)I think....0 -
DD's got follow-up appointments but we've identified what's been wrong.
Just need to confirm there's nothing worse on top of that. That'll be invetigated in the coming weeks. Thanks for the kind thoughts.

Dunno. I don't know how badly the levels, for example, were impacted by 87.
I was used to hurricanes but was here in 87 and the damage here was sort of worse in a way because the house wasn't designed for it and people don't prep simply. ( I don't mean dopesters dog style, ...oh I do miss him and hope life is treating him well...I just mean simple day of measures)
Brits love a panic.

So, I feel the pervading force of water, and the impact of changing water patterns ( inc building on flood plains, our usage of water and water courses ) is a fundamental issue.
Water is seriously damaging over time. I mean......look at how its shaped the world . Its more impactful than the occasional hurricane really.
I think how we prep for changing weather plus look at theproblems of infrastructure and really address how we move forward are quite big issues. Sadly, people are squealing pithy political stupidities and squealing about rain. The issues are far wider.
I really believe we ignore water at our peril...too much, too little...its a dangerous thing and godly.
edit : I don't remember the flooding seven years ago at all. Not even the tiniest bit ATM.. Can some one jog my memory please?

The winds this afternoon were scary, even though I am warm dry and well above ground.
