There is no distraction of whose that, not panicking, if you are MAKING a call. ;)
I struggle to make a call in daylight in my own home!

I had no idea posh people did that!

Also, if you're on the phone you're having to process information, listen, reply, make decisions etc.

With a fag there's none of that

Apparently using a hands-free phone increases reaction times more than being just over the drink-drive limit.

(Can you tell I did a 'driving on business' training course last week?)

    Other distracting things include:
Children in the car (as lydia mentioned)
    Reading shop signs/ adverts
Looking at pedestrians for more than a glance

Frankly, most of the time, I wouldn't mind a potty in my seat too. :o:o. Its so distracting needing a wee.
I rarely drive far enough to need a wee .... which is usually done about once every 6-7 hours. Even a 4 hour drive and necking 2 cans of coke en route doesn't leave me busting to find a loo upon my arrival.

They've decided to shut Worcester bridge now... so that's shut down Worcester town centre

    That does happen often, though.

For a while fishermen made good money running a ferry service there when the bridge closed. This year the river looks exceptionally dangerous, so guess it isn't happening.

I have learned that I and diet coke do not mix. Something in it makes the call of nature more urgent than I can run.

Also, I'm finding that the 5:2 diet is really helping my lipodermatosclerosis. It's even reversing it in places. That was one of the main reasons for trying it, but I'm surprised it works.

  • What is lipo-thingy? I'm guessing something to do with fat on the skin?

Er, the shortest root is to go to google images and type it in there. Don't do it while eating.

Basically, it's where the fat layer under the skin in your leg dies off, and you get what the victorians call a 'peg leg', i.e. one that looks like an upside down champagne bottle. In my case caused by a massive DVT which messed up the circulation in my leg.

Ouch. Poor you. V pleased to hear it's improving, though. :)
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.
    :)
  • Ouch - does that hurt? Glad it's getting better, anyway, with the help of the diet.

Smoking in cars is usually not very distracting unless:
    1. Tip comes off the cigarette.
    2. Smoke gets in your eyes.
