...don't be scared of it and don't get too worried about previous sold prices etc.....go view and take it at face value.
...
It wasn't that great, but I know I have to get my 4rse into all the "almost/sort of right" ones so I know when I see "the one".
I should keep a list of everything I consider/talk of.... then once I've bought one, post the whole list just so you guys can be nosey at what I didn't like/why.0 -
There's a plot of land at £125k ... with PP to build a 3 bed detached .... how much would that cost to do? It says 900 sq ft, that's probably the plot size, not the house size. 2 storeys and it has a "round bit", so turret shaped room, at a corner.
Looking at it ... I could build half now ... as there's a clear cut off point for the other half.
Needs digging out - flat land, but bedrooms are on the lower ground floor, so looks like a bungalow from the road.0 -

I did....and I quoted but it went over my 3 limit.
There will be more but being registered with agents as well as A Serious Buyer' with a wedge in the bank () may get you notifications of things that don't hit RM until they are sold.
I also wouldn't be out off by things that have been on for a long time as sometimes there is a random not obvious reason. Zoopla is good as you can sort by the date it went up for sale.
Our current house (bought in 96) was on for over a year when we viewed and had gone 'stale' but was right for us......and they dropped the price.
Likewise, Margate was perfect for us but had been on for ages )though they couldn't get viewers into it even though he reduced it, as the tenants agreed to viewings then were out every time)....so we just got lucky that day on the 4th trying to get access.
You know the old saying 'seek and ye shall find'and I know you will come across one that will be spot on .....soon

900 sq ft = 83 sqm is a pretty small 3 bed but they would almost certainly let you build something similar as a 2 bed. Doozer is really the person to ask but you should be able to get something of that size built for about 100k. You could probably park a mobile home on site whilst the building work was going on.I think....0

OH was talking about this the other day to my Canadian cousin who is going to self build and he estimated about 100k for a basic 3 bed but Doozergirl would know better. It's a lot of faffing with planning, building regs and so on. I have had enough of all that and we are only building a tag on to the house.
A whole new build from scratch would turn me into a wreck I think.0 -
yay cross posted with MS.....so 100k it is0

Curved turrets could add on to the costs though. Building a basement level would be costly too.0 -

I am using various sites/methods to try to dig out hidden stuff. I have thought of sticking notices in local shop windows .... and maybe even leafleting specific roads/houses, but as it's so close to Xmas and I've other stuff on my mind, I've just left it all a bit late really. Wish I'd decided on this current area of interest a year ago.0 -
I think building half a house could be a bit tricky as the big costs are foundations and so on.
It'd probably affect the roofline though.... although I could bang that on too and it'd be a huge verandah propped up by a pile of bricks at the two corners.OH was talking about this the other day to my Canadian cousin who is going to self build and he estimated about 100k for a basic 3 bed but Doozergirl would know better. No kitchen required. I'd be happy with a sink and the rest all stand alone units.... don't need a shiny fitted kitchen.0 -

The rooms are quite smallish so, while I could build big cupboards against an entire wall, the reality is that I'd like a place to "lob stuff" into .... initially, with a 2-bedder, I'd clearly lob it all in there.... but there comes a day when it needs to have its own home.
It's amazing just how much stuff can accumulate.... even a clothes airer, vacuum and some brooms need to go somewhere... and a laundry basket and pegs bag ... and that's before you get to the lilo, small beach tent, bicycle lamps/pump/panniers, the toolbox .... it all adds up.... and it all has to go somewhere handy, yet out of sight, and organised. I've also got some boxes of "dad's stuff" and shortly "mum's stuff". Then there's all the paperwork I have to keep for myself, my past 6 years' accounts and mum's PoA stuff etc... even if I get a filing cabinet, that'd need to go somewhere too!
Stuff....
We notice that too. We fell in love with the current house because it's a bit tardis-y. From the front you can't quite figure out how it can have so many rooms and how they can be so large.
When the builders made it they used every inch for room space. It took me a while to realise the boiler was hidden in the attic and there was nowhere to store an upright vac or an ironing board.
The obvious storage areas are used to make room for a hidden shower + WC room. It's pretty standard now for builders to leave property looking big and empty but cupboardless and wardrobeless and the buyers have to just hit IKEA and get all the cupboards/wardrobes, shelves etc. and fit them as needed.:)There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0
