The British Government don't you know is about to be dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st century because microsoft are switching off support for windows xp (although they pulled the plug on ie6 a few years ago and yet we still have that). Anyway as part of the change from Windows xp and office xp/2003 it seems something very horrible is going to happen to all our emails.
I pasted an article about a year ago that stated that some legal companies were prepping teams so that the public could sue gov't depts if their information was compromised as a result of failing to change.
We are changing at the moment too, but it is very slow. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

Microsoft XP is about as secure as swiss cheese, so I think that Microsoft made the right decision.“The ideas of debtor and creditor as to what constitutes a good time never coincide.”

Still hunting down bits of paper. When you live in one room, with lots of boxes, what happens is you have a system "Ah, bank statement, need that for tax return - stick it in this pile" but then one day there's a random property inspection and you need to tidy up, so you grab that pile and, depending how many other piles there are, it might get put into one of 2-3 places.....
And, so, most of my exercise is in physically locating every relevant paper statement etc, putting them into date order, checking all 12 exist, entering the individual amounts into a spreadsheet with the date.
And only when all piles are all present and correct, can I press the buttons on the website.
I've now got everything, except the savings interest statements.... so I am now heading for the "all savings letters/statements" folder and hoping that they were hole punched and put into there during one of my random "quick tidy up, it's an inspection" tidy-ups ... because I've already sorted out all other piles of "stuff shoved out of sight", so they must be in the correct/designated space.
My tax return is more about the drudgery of finding/collating/proving every individual sheet of paper required.... then entering every item/amount into a spreadsheet with a reference to which bank sheet it's on. The idea is, that if you randomly picked up my 2006-07 return and pointed to any random amount and said "what's that for?" I could instantly open the spreadsheet, look up the bank statement and within 1 minute plonk down the bank statement and any relevant receipt and say exactly what it was.
So, the figures and the return itself aren't the time-killer, it's the 3 hours/year it takes me to find/record all the paperwork into a neat, date ordered pile that's been triple checked0 -
I post as one of the world's best procrastinators - but even I wouldn't leave it quite that late to gather info. - my return was filed last Sat, refund was in my bank account this morning.
Only one client left, all done and just waiting for him to come and sign it. My nosy neighbour over the road must be wondering what it is about January. Some days I have 3 male visitors, who stay for periods from 10 minutes to over 2 hours.
I'm not planning on enlightening him, though!0 -
Pn, when you have finished remember to make that dd's appointment.
Don't think I won't remember to nag. I actually wrote it in chalk on my bedroom wall. 'Nag x about dr'.0 -

Did my tax return ages ago *smug*. Unfortunately no-one has asked me to go on a date, so keeping the night free was to no avail:p
Let us know in advance next time, bugslet. Giggity.lostinrates wrote: »Edit, second flat was parc /arts loi. First one I cannot remember where it was but I remember asking wheezy about the area! Useless brain!
I think it was Madou?
Good luck with the scan, Generali. It will be fine, trust me.0 -

Paypal's the biggest "work" effort.
First I bundle up all transactions in one currency, convert it to GBP then download it to my bank. I do this for each currency I am paid, 2-3. Usually GBP and USD and EUR. Sometimes Can$ and AUS$
Then I have one transfer per currency.
Back into Paypal, view all transactions for each currency, convert that amount to GBP at the rate the transfer occurred at, then enter that amount into both columns of: Spent, Income. This will represent that, say, I received $99 in income and paid $99 for hosting fees. I make sure to always pay through Paypal out of the matching currency pot so they match.
That is because, if I earnt £1000 in 4 currencies and spent £999 in GBP all in Paypal, then I'd only transfer £1 to my bank - and £1 isn't the income, £1000 is the income.
To make things more "interesting", I am not doing this now, I've done this - it takes some time for the transfers to occur. So I am cross-checking all my dates/values too.
I tend to do one Paypal transfer a year, to keep it easier to manage.0
