I am uncomfortable with Lydia's comment that not all are fit to take part in democracy but that as a system it is better than dictatorship/rule by the elite. I think as soon as anyone makes a value judgement that some people's opinions are more valid than someone else's it is the start of a slippery slope. Apologies Lydia if I misinterpreted your view.
I'm not making judgements that some people are fit to take part in democracy and others aren't - I'm not trying to draw distinctions between some people and other people at all. I'm suggesting that all people are subject to the corrupting influence of having too much power, and that this is the reason why power should be shared by everyone. I can't subscribe to the idea that all people are so wise and altruistic and perfect that they are all fit to have lots of power, so that democracy is viewed merely in terms of sharing out the power that everyone would each be perfectly fit to wield in absolute terms.
I'm not sure I'm articulating that very well. Am I making any sense?Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

I went to a wedding once where they started talking in tongues. Very strange, also rather unbiblical I thought - I am sure there is some instruction about only talking in tongues when everyone present can understand.
Yes, or there is an interpreter present.
( I always thought God had a bit of an odd taste in the kind of person he speaks to. They always seem to have a good appreciation of all the things that other people are doing wrong, but rarely a good appreciation of how they could be a better person.
Ouch, that's nasty for the nice thread, but still. )“The ideas of debtor and creditor as to what constitutes a good time never coincide.”

lydia, you always make sense.I know some quakers and never knew them to have any particular dress code. Doubt they're wear designer clothes though.
.
That rules me out, converting to Quaker then, as I do like bling in the clothing - reaction against spending my working life in jeans and polos.
Client of mine is Bretheren as opposed to Plymouth Bretheren, we've spent many a happy hour mildly bickering - him pointing out that I am bound to go to hell and me telling him he'd be in for a big surprise if only there was life after death. I do like him an awful lot and we both decide not to be offended by the others loopy views;).
@michaels, hope whichever option you end up going for, it works out.
@gen, good to hear, sometimes you need to stress about something and get it out of your system.0 -

In case that image of what orthodox jews look like remains, this is a recent rabbi (relgiious leader) of my (modern orthodox) community and his wife.

Last tub, the crystal one. Lovely. Of course, she got the idea from my shopping list I'm sure......
I'd actually prefer that one.
. It would go beautifully in my en suite. The tap is not good for the bath though, IMO. I'm bath tub browsing, ready to buy one for my en suite and stick it in a barn for later this year of the mood strikes me.........
I like looking at the pics of baths that you post, but ... many of them seem to have very sharp edges. Do people not lie back in the bath with the back of their head and neck on the edge of the bath? The latest in Australian khazi technology:

So the hand basin fills the cistern. Clever huh?
Agree with everyone else about (a) the desirability of flushing loos with grey water and (b) the impracticability of the design for anything other than a loo by itself in a house that also has another bathroom.I know some quakers and never knew them to have any particular dress code. Doubt they're wear designer clothes though.
I've a lot of respect for them as a religion, and as a community. Don't seem to have the hair covering/not covering concerns other religions seem to have preoccupations with either.
Quakers aren't big into having rules about anything. Everyone making up their own mind and respecting other people's differing opinions is a big part of their ethos. I agree with others that the small triangular headscarf and long skirt combo is most likely Plymouth Brethren.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? I've never really been into pasta dishes. My only experience really being mac cheese, spag bol, lasagne ... and pasta salad. If I am eating out I'll never choose pasta as I see it as a "cheap/pointless meal" and I want proper food, so will go for a curry or a pie.I made my standard Arabiatta sauce: 1 scant tbsp olive oil, 1 medium onion, , 1-2 cloves garlic, 1 tin tomatoes, 1.5 tsp dried chile flakes, handful of basil.
Hence - I've never really thought about pasta sauces and flavours.... always thought they were bland and boring.
So, I had to google that sauce .... and I had no idea there was a pasta/sauce that was intended to be hot.
I don't get out much do I ....
I'd still prefer a curry/pie though in a pub. It's still "just pasta and sauce"
