    Sure.

But I'd rather risk that than suffer the alternatives.

I did once make the mistake of taking a job I really liked that didn't pay well enough to enjoy the lifestyle that keeps me happy.

It made me utterly miserable and set my career and life goals back by 5 years.

Won't be making that mistake again.

We're all different. Life would be boring otherwise.

How long did you stick it in the fun but poorly paying job? What sort of things did you have to give up that made you miserable not to be able to have/do?

Glad you're now in circumstances that work for you.
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)

Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

    A bit under 2 years.

Which is how long it took me to deplete my savings, live the lifestyle of a pauper for a while, realise I hated being poor, and get back into a job that paid a decent wage again.

It was a long time ago though.

    Anything that costs money.

    It's a long list....:)

    Indeed.

It's required to do jobs at a certain level in many/most industries.

So whilst an individual could certainly choose to walk away from a senior position and take a less demanding role in the same industry at a lower level, if they did so their career path would be over and earning power severely curtailed.

Whether that's worth it or not is entirely up to the individual.

    It's not for me though.

I think ATM DH would seriously consider a future path that bypassed partnership and Im towards counsel (in the international law firm terminology not the NDG British law terminology....I.e, a well respected lawyer who in uk is a solicitor but who isn't a partner, but whose work is regarded by the firm as commensurate with one) if it meant a better work life balance.

But of course, we don't know if his seniors will even rate his work as that in the future. It might also be that his goals change. It might be that he feels this way after the rough up and down of sadistic boss and political situation at work, and that it might be better to be in the game than out of it if the offer were made ...just try and get a position out in the field somewhere.

They are decisions for the future for DH, but the portion of less and slower progression just isn't on the table, or less and maintaining even.

Also, like it or not, DH very strongly feels that in another cull or reorganisation, such as happened at the beginning of the crunch and in a couple of waves after, key team members would have stood a better chance of getting though, and that a short term hours person, what ever employment hours says, would have been less likely to have been one of those lynch pins.

I miss having a pony, The ones I really like are too rich for our blood now. :o.

I miss going to polo, but I don't miss the stick chicks and I think I'd get bored watching.

My tastes are expensive in what I like to own but maybe not so much in what I like to do so much. I do miss travelling, but .....that's health. I like travelling 'well' though really. I like seeing friends, laughing, um...other free things :kisses3::happyhear:smileyhea:blushing::kisses2:

I find it hard to buy stuff that I don't like when I know there is stuff I do out of financial reach. I'd rather do without entirely than compromise. I find compromise difficult :o. Its not a nice character trait!

    Off to my bath!

After the furore about the latest gaffe, someone has done a UKIP shipping forecast.

Mildly NSFW, but very, very funny. :)

    What'd you do with £25?

That's the only pony I'd be likely to have :)

I think the adjusting to a lower salary is hard because once you have had the higher income you get used to it. If you've never had it, you can't miss it.

    Omg...baths rule.

Dh and pink whistley cat are in it now. She's as happy as I was, miaowing and purring carrying on :). So keen on baths in this house even the cats get in.

If only the dogs were as keen.
