Tbf, lots of the older partners at dh's firm really do put in many, many hours, with insane responsibility of client money, plus their own stuff..books etc, and the firm affairs.

wealth in some of the things DH works on is just ...seemingly unfathomable.

Yeah, in his fifties. ( jus checked with the Boss) Just one of those things. DH remembers him from time in an office together, worker, decent. Some retire, some die. DH is going to think about if there are traits in common dividing who makes it out alive from who doesn't.:)

Probably having/not having a demanding, social-climbing, awkward shrill of a wife.

    DH is therefore safe.

Sweet of you. :D. I am extremely demanding and awkward, but not social climbing. Rather the opposite really, :D

We had friends for supper last night and wrote on the what are we having for super thread on old style we were having a candle lit supper. Made me snigger because it sounded very try hard.

It actually just his the fact I hadn't cleaned the floor, or um......much else, :o. It was actually a pyjama party, not in the least posh. Food wasn't bad though and we were all very comfy and warm in our pjs etc. :D

Edit...oh and we had a mad dancing session which was hilarious.

You also manifestly love him and regard your marriage as a two way street, not merely an environment in which he is expected to do what you want.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

Thank you. i agree :o. Absolutely. And he wouldn't have been interested in a partner who was inclined to expect him to do what they want him to do.

In our industry and at our level it's the same everywhere.

WTD is of no relevance as we all opt out, you simply can't do this job and only work 40-ish hours a week, it's not humanly possible.

They pay us well and treat us well, and so long as you enjoy work it's not a problem.

Reasonable choices which are fine as long as you can sustain it, feel you have a choice, and feel in control. Enjoying it and earning a lot does not save you from burn out and other health associated problems.

I think the point that I am making, and what I am reading hamish as saying is that in some industries it is NOT a choice if you are :D choosing to remain in that industry.

While industries of people cannot choose to walk away really, though I accept individuals can.

Mean while. My hard working put upon DH has told me to log off In a minute as he is going to run me a bath with something scented in it tonight. :j:j

    Sure.

But I'd rather risk that than suffer the alternatives.

I did once make the mistake of taking a job I really liked that didn't pay well enough to enjoy the lifestyle that keeps me happy.

It made me utterly miserable and set my career and life goals back by 5 years.

Won't be making that mistake again.

All inclusive, with lots of kids milling around and a decent range of activities.

Takes a bit of trial and error to get right; nothing worse than being on holiday with loads of kids and kiddies clubs and your kids refusing to join them. Something like centre parcs (here or abroad) where there are a lot of sports activities rather than kids clubs full of arts and crafts. We found the best were all inclusive hotels in Greece where there were sports activities for all ages not just kids.

This was one fo the first clues we had about DS. Couldn't figure out why there was such resistance to such nice clubs.

Hugs. I know it was probably a long time ago and you've adjusted to it by now, but I still feel for you.

With my DS it was different because the reason for the sudden change in willingness to join in was obvious, but still tricky to manage.

    Indeed.

It's required to do jobs at a certain level in many/most industries.

So whilst an individual could certainly choose to walk away from a senior position and take a less demanding role in the same industry at a lower level, if they did so their career path would be over and earning power severely curtailed.

Whether that's worth it or not is entirely up to the individual.

    It's not for me though.
