Well, dh went to see the other place this morning. It went really well. See, I say I don't like it to you lot and it goes well ;). but they seemed to like DH a lot. They saw him at breakfast having called yesterday and before lunch had asked if he were minded to consider them. :) Its a realistic prospect in terms of finance I think.

The other place. Do you mean Housepricecrash? I'm shocked.

Very sadly, Steve Evans passed away last night.

He was a marvellous, inspirational man.

He made me proud to be a wulfrunian.

I didn't know when I posted the above, but he'd been tweeting over the weekend that he was coming to the end of his "journey".

It's such a shame what this vile illness can do.
Nice man, I saw him on the telly.

I'm trying to reduce portion sizes when cooking meals currently.
I've noticed a couple of times I've made slightly smaller meals, & yet have still felt full & satisfied once I've finished. So I'm trying to extend that by generally eating less 7 days a week.
One thing I tried, occasionally, was to split meals into half and eat half. I told myself that the food wouldn't be lost - and if I was still hungry in an hour's time I could have the other half. Often I didn't need it.

Even for toast I'd make one slice, not two.

In shops I'd stop myself by telling me that there was no shortage of food and that the product I was eyeing up would still be available for sale, on any day of my choosing, in the future.... so I didn't need to buy it today.

Telling myself that I wasn't "losing forever" anything I didn't eat did help to chip away at portion sizes.

I remember you posting about Steve last year LJ, sounds like an all round decent chap.

LJ, my new years resolution was to walk a minimum of10,000 steps every day, which was going well till I twisted my knee yesterday, should be fine by tomorrow/weekend. That's about an hours walk + usual amblings.

Gen, years ago I had anxiety attacks, what really worked for me were simple breathing exercises along the lines of inhale for 8, hold for 8, exhale for 10. It just calmed everything down. i'm going to say take it easy, even though it doesn't look like an option.

Do you think he will go for it lir?

Face doesn't fit. That's happened to me in the past - and it's an awful situation as it's nothing you've done, but it makes you feel very under-confident and rubbish.

What he was doing with the old sadistic boss. So what he is doing now will help but not be directly relevant. They are particularly keen on the mix of skill, but also that DH hasn't done work in sadistic boss's area for a while because it would create a conflict of interest issue. Tbh he's not that fussed about area of work as is now sort of enjoying what he does now.

Its a bit like choosing a type of sausage, rather than between sausage and bacon if you ask me. Ultimately I think it will come down to what personal opportunities they might offer with career development, bugslet. I dunno. He likes to surprise me sometimes, ;). So long as HE is happy I'm happy. We have been talking a lot about things like flexibility. For example, there will come a time in the future when his dad falls ill. It makes sense to be some where from where, in worse case scenario he can work for a couple of months (or so) in NYC rather than take too much compassionate leave needlessly. One of the difficulties with families spread overseas, as a few of the nice people will appreciate, is trying to future plan for things like that. My dad only has me and DH. My mother pretty much only has me and DH. (Sibling wouldn't stir stumps unless there was something in it for her). Dh's dad has two other kids with slightly more leeway in work hours ( but not location) and a new partner who is younger, so ....in theory it shouldn't be the same issue, but at the time I think it will be. Fil was a very good son in that way to his father and step Mather and I am certain will expect the same from his children (and know that DH would want to do it) so I feel that should be part of of future planning. Not crippling so, but as a consideration.

Both these give DH that option I think, theoretically. Smaller teams bring different bonuses and pressures. And different types of work.

Does FIR only think about carer at this stage or is quality of life (ie hours with LIR) also a consideration?

Not a joking matter but at least on the M25 you weren't far from a (hard) shoulder to cry on....

I think there could be something in this, there is the old observation that the only thing you ever see fat people doing quickly is eating and I do think it takes a while for food in the tummy to turn of the hungry feeling - for example I reckon it is possible to scogff most of a packet of biscuits if you are famished and chain eat but if you eat one and then put up with the unger for a short while then you probably only want one more and feel fine.
    I think....
