Cardiff's closer.... and there I feel thin AND tall!

It's easier being a bloke. As Jimmy Carr once said

... and he should know. If there's one man that needs all the help available it's JC. He's one odd looking mofo.

Up because I got a call from Wycombe hospital, James is having one of his chest pain/palpitation/tachycardia episodes.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

I've got another 20 years to go according to that.

If I do 12 more years of education I can add 1 more year to my lifespan.

I will apparently live to 86, and can improve to 92!

Morning Sue. I hope that James is ok. It must be harder on you now that he's away when things like this happen. Get well soon James.

I make my students do the livingto100 lifespan calculator. At the end there's an inconspicuous feedback button which if you press it reveals a treasure trove of ways of adding extra years to your projected lifespan based on your lifestyle.

Mine came out at 95. This is higher than last time by about 5 years and entirely the result of working at the library as it forces me to be active... long walk to work and lots of moving around once there. I am losing weight naturally and slowly purely as a result of this.

ETA.. if I make suggested changes I could live to 102. Not sure that I'd want to.

Certainly is. Got the first call from James at 3.50 to say he was having problems, then was on tenterhooks until the hospital rang at 5.25 with an update.

Looks like the episode has calmed now but he will have to have a monitor on for 48 hours as an outpatient when they release him.

    Further update on James

Just managed to speak to him, he was admitted direct onto the cardiac ward after seeing the out of hours service and having 3 ECGs. This was after one of his room mates realised James was having difficulty and rang NHS Direct for advice.

The cardiologist was shocked at how lax his GP and the specialists have been down here (I don't think they really understood his condition here, the one he saw this mornng has experience of EDS). Says his condition has been completely mismanaged and that he should have been having Echo's annually (we argued this point with the GP here several times but he was insisting on every 5 years).

Upshot is that James has been referred officially to the cardiac team in Wycombe, will be having his echo done and will have to wear a heart monitor for a week.

Everything has settled completely now, heart rate and beats back to normal, so he will be released very soon.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Sue,..out of bad news good news huh?

Maybe the doctor taking it seriously can encourage James to make any lifestyle changes needed to support himself too. I 'm afraid the details evade me of something you were concerned about him doing last year for his health (was it too much walking?).

It must be a relief to know things are being considered more seriously.
