Because we drive out in a warm car and wave greetings to our neighbours who are scrapping their windscreens in coats and scarves or drive straight in whilst they run in with umbreallas

Are you using one car in the garage or are you climbing out of the windows?
Am I remembering the right picture, with the two cars in the garage? Do you still have that? It was brilliant. One of the very few people who use a garage as a garage.
So this is the clever bit, because the garage is almost big enough for two cars but not really we can keep junk in in and still squeeze the car in. The electric door is also a big plus. I will dig out the picture at some point.I think....0 -
Doozerboy has some kind of obsession with electric garage doors. We have had actual rows over it as I know *some* people use their garages to drive into, the vast majority just use it as somewhere to put stuff before it goes to the tip. Having an electric door on a bin store is a bit excessive.
An internal door into a useable garage with an electric door, yes, I totally see the point.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

. One of the discussions we have is about gates.
The current gate we think should be electric with a keypad the code for which can be changed. The front ones when they go in? Well.....
They'll be opened each am and stand open I think but DH thinks they should be electric and open and close each use . I think its a big waste of money (and time) to electrify them. Seems to me we'd spend ages getting in and out. Gates take so long to open.
Part of the reason for open fronted car storage is that seems much easier than getting out and open /closing when we'll be walking over to the house in anycase
We use a car port now, and its perfectly adaquate for keeping weather off car. Occasionally I stick car in a barn. But so rarely that I cannot remember the last time.0 -
I don't have to worry about ice on windscreens either - I just sail out of hte building, and get a bus / taxi / tube as appropriate, nothing to worry about....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0

Frost here was humongous this morning.
Spent ages engaged in scrapage of the windscreen variety.
I'm contemplating changing my avatar to move with the times. Zag you're such a trendsetter! It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -

It was one of the first things I did at my last house. When I bought it the garage was tandem-style and in two constructions. Front/large/tall bit had HUGE double doors - you could get a camper van in there. But the roof leaked badly and it was all very poorly put together - just "chucked together" really. The back part was made of some panels that looked like aluminium sheets painted with render paint.Doozergirl wrote: »Doozerboy has some kind of obsession with electric garage doors. I took down the huge/front part, had big stakes dug into the ground, ordered a very wide electric door, then had a light sensor fitted so that as I approached I clicked the button, up went the door - and as I drove in the light came on
Cost me about £1k to do that lot, but it gave me a sense of security as I drove up an unlit back access lane, beside a public space.... once in the garage I pressed the button to shut the door behind me and emerged through the garage side door, in the garden/behind my side gate.... and then my garden light came on as I had a sensor by the back door too.0 -
So, in addition to the new school of life books that I do want, Alain de Botton now has this newie coming out:
http://alaindebotton.com/news-users-manual/
In spite of the sheer volume of "to read" books I already possess, I had to buy this one. So, I pre-ordered.
That's 2 books I have on pre-order for the first 3 months of the year, & I heard about another book coming out in february I really will want too.
Thankfully I appear to have read approx 20 books since the summer (you know a list is likely to appear soon as a result...) so I am at least trying to work my way through them all. It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
