    :( That's so sad.

With unlimited money .... if I'd lived there I'd have converted the ground floor to a boat shed, parking and barbecue area.... and lived upstairs with a large balcony and .... an inflatable dinghy.

I think many islanders were affected by a previous flood and were given money to build upwards. However the water's six feet higher in some places than it was before and even that hasn't been enough.

Sounds like a houseboat's the best thing to build there.

That's really useful to know, thanks. Very glad to hear that your son's life was saved though it must have been a dreadful experience.

Up until now I'd not think of having one per room as I didn't know it was optimal, and I guess like most people, when I visit the houses of others, I haven't really noticed their ceilings. I just thought the norm was to have one upstairs and one downstairs (which is what we had until the new one was fitted). The adverts do a good job of suggesting that houses have a fire alarm and that they are tested, but I'd never heard of the one per room until I read the leaflet. It's good to hear what others have.

Do any other NPs have one per room?

Here there are 3 optical detectors (by front door, upstairs landing and lounge) and a heat detector in the kitchen.

I've seen property for sale that doesn't have any windows you can access in a fire. I'll go and find links in a minute, if I can. It was a studio flat and the only windows seemed to be high up in the ceiling, no chance of reaching. I wondered how that'd get through fire regs....

Edit found it. It had been on at £100k when I first spotted it, now it's about £77k

If you read it says "top floor/studio".
If you look at the floorplan it shows only velux windows. Description reads "Three Velux style windows"

Given the number of obese people and the reduction in window sizes to meet EPC requirements, I suspect there are a lot of people who couldn't escape their homes in a hurry.

Is that really true about window sizes? I don't believe it

At least we'll have a soft landing if we do make it out of the window though :)

Ours kept us up all night a few days back barking at foxes who were howling outside. Don't know when foxes mate. Wonder if it's to do with that. Mind you somebody was letting off fireworks the other day and I don't know what that was about.

So you can tell us - What does the fox say?

Aiui one of the people who has a similar brain situation to me who also got better surprisingly is also a musician. He still has more complex skills undamaged like ...well...music ;). I have other things better. It was suggested early on that it was the 'pathways' we had strengthened and developed for musical skill might be relevant

Cabg causes memory loss and some loss of intellectual function. It is assumed to be temporary however that is not wholly my experience in that I feel I have recovered but when tired/brain is full the same loss of way findng/planning skills and loss of memory comes into effect.

I can't find my way home/use basic IT such as microsoft as I just can't find my way round it. I tell my team who witness this "my brain is not working" . Feel this more at present but will only work Mon-Weds from 27th of this month so hoping for an improvement.:)

Unless the train runs whether you're on it or not of course.

Train pricing is stupid in my view. If you know where you're going and at what time (exactly) a couple of months in advance then it can be very, very cheap. Buying tickets on the day can be ludicrously expensive. That sort of pricing model seems to assume a captive audience who have to swallow the inflated 'walk up' price, but of course if you can just drive instead it doesn't work. So it makes sense for fares to be prices that way if the ticket is being sold in Central London, but not so much for tickets for travel to central London.

It is exactly that...and the stupid stop everywhere at weekends approach to put people off completely. Maybe someone should suggest a faster approach...could even brand it...Intercity?
