Instead I've taken the opportunity to see what happens to nut Brittle if you put it in a cake...will the sugar dissolve off or with the nuts stay caramilsed? I don't know. But will be interesting to have them tell me. I've made it in the Christmas tin though, because it was down still and I didn't want to ask DH to get up and get me another tin down or do it myself, That kind of ....weary dragging feeling.
Friend now not coming.
Nut brittle in cake update. Am told it retains crunch and tastes 'amazing'. Does make cake very I hard to cut though! The sugar bled a little but definitely something to play with again in the future.
I made a pecan brittle, but a banana cake with peanut brittle could be really good fun I think.0 -
Never mind fires. Got relatives who lived on an island on the river. The place just looks like houses in the middle of the river; the island's invisible and so's the road and bridge. Luckily most of the inhabitants have boats, but all the relative's insurance documents are unreachable.
Council wouldn't send carers to see relative so another family member negotiated the bridge and got them out before the bridge disappeared. Going to have to go and help with chucking all their possessions into skips when the water recedes. Horrible situation.
thames ditton island was on the news yesterday - was completely awash. some woman was talking about her buildings insurance premium being £8,000 for a 1.5 bedroom house. it is one of the areas we were looking at (not the island itself but some of the streets near the river which are also flooded at the moment i think). i don't think we'll be looking there any more. i always think about the risk in london being from a storm surge but clearly not!0 -
It is exactly that...and the stupid stop everywhere at weekends approach to put people off completely. Maybe someone should suggest a faster approach...could even brand it...Intercity?
I guess the computer models show that this gives the best trade off between running fewest services (minimise cost) and maximising ticket revenue. Not necessarily optimal for society as a whole of course....I think....0 -

I remember you'd said something about being near the river. I'd be very wary. Relative had to replace everything last time. Absolutely hates what's happening. You'd think they'd designed areas to be flooded to spare some areas of London. Wouldn't want to be in those areas.

Could it be a jack and Jill bedroom or a cot room? Or just a biggish landing?0 -
We have 3, one on the upstairs landing, on in the hall downstairs and one at the entrance to a room that is off another room (as opposed to off the hall).I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. There are some flats near my parents that have a half bedroom. IIRC the room is something like 6ft by 6ft and the council would not allow it to be described as a bedroom in the sales literature as it did not meet size requirements. Cot room or dressing room I think. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.
