Well, it's a basic requirement of the job. Any job. Knowing what you are supposed to do, and who you are supposed to report to.
It doesn't matter whether you'd like to ask. It's something you have to do.
Dotted line boss introduces himself and says, "I'm big boss and you report to me on X, Y and Z. By the way chewy looks after A, B and C and you will meet him when he gets back from holiday." So poor newbie has absorbed all that and assumed that chewy is the colleague in charge of A, B and C and they both report to big boss.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Takes me back to years ago where instead of driving between Glasgow to London you'd drive your car into Central Station and load it onto a special train (motorail) that ferried it down to London.
A friend of the family who worked for BR had access to cheap rail travel as a perk and used to ferry his car down to the south of France etc. using these trains. Don't know how much time or money it saved although obiously you arrived in a better state.
Wonder if anywhere still runs this service or have the cheap airlines and car hire companies taken over that niche?
My fmaily did this several times when I was a child - 3 holidays in Italy, where the car went on the train from Boulounge to Bologna, and 2 in the south of France, where we got off at Nice.
It was absolutely fantastic. I was 10 the first time we did it, and waking up in the train going through the Alps was incredible.lostinrates wrote: »DH family used to do this Italy to France as a kid.drive it on a train. Super option. Wish it happened more.

My parents liked it because, at the time, it was almost impossible to hire larger cars, and then there were 6 of us to lug stuff for, so they could bung it all in the good old Peogoet 505 and away we went....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

OH has just returned from Sheffield, too....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0

No, what happened is big boss said "hello I am big boss etc" and didn't mention me at all. I arrived a week later and just started 'managing' him without explicitly stating that I was his manager. That is what caused the confusion as I just assumed he had been told.
I'm not going to fire him for not understanding what was going on. Even if I wanted to, with our HR department that would take about a year and a half even though he's still on probation.0 -
