dog attack

Got a call whilst at work at 1 this aft from my oh asking me to come home as he amd the dogs had been attacked hes too upset to say anything else.
Get back have 1 dog with a small puncture wound in ber side one with a puncture wound under his ear and a oh with many puncture wounds all over his hands and no skin on his knees.
The people who own the mastif that attacked have taken oh to hospital I have bathed the dogs and taken them out. They're a bit hyped up but seem ok.
How in the hell do I calm my oh down when he gets back he was verrrry shook up.
Oh and stop myself from beating a mutual friend of the owner of the dog that attacked because he suggested it shouldn't be put down he could get it rehomedfor them.

  • It's very scary when you and your beloved pets get attacked. Your other half must be very shaken up.

With regards to the mastiff, are your friends able to control it? Is it normally aggressive? Did your other half get hurt because he was trying to protect your own dogs?

I only ask because it isn't always necessary to destroy a dog because it has bitten, it depends on the circumstances and how willing the owner is to combat the aggression, also dogs that are aggressive towards other dogs are not necessarily a risk to humans. I had a Jack Russell many moons ago who HATED all other dogs but was the sweetest most loving boy to people.

If however the other dog has attacked before and as you said the owners just want to rehome it the poor dog may not have much chance :(

Hes beyond shaken up he had no skin on his knees and his hands are a mess.

Too be honest I don't care if its attacked before a 6ft man has no skin on his knees and hands that are more holes than hands, its owner could not get it off my OH and was also covered in blood most of it from my OH I love my dogs but they did that and I would be taking them myself the owner agrees with me its the mutual friend I am annoyed at.
It went for my female she has a puncture in her side, oh managed to get her lead off and she ran home my male is a verrry soft boy who loves all other dogs it had his head in its mouth he has several puncture wounds in his neck.
You would want that around kids? (Alot play out round here)
Nope time to take my dogs to the vets think females needs stiches. And tbey are hyped

Sorry about what happened to your OH and dogs but the above quoted from your post .. why?

The said dog did not attack kids so why refer to those?

The dog may be dog agressive but not agressive towards humans.

I understand the dog did not attack your OH but your OH got hurt in the process of protecting your own dogs?

The dog did not attack your OH as such on purpose for the sake of attacking him.

The dog was trying to get to your dogs and OH "got in the way" and got hurt.

    That is the difference.

Pls do not get me wrong, I really feel for both your OH and for your dogs BUT really do not like the "what if those were kids" comments with dog on dog attacks.

The mastiffs don't seem a pleasant breed from what I've seen about them around where I am.

And more than should, idiots seem to have them.

I have a rescue Yorkshire terrier and an elderly one at that.

The foolish boy of 13 tried to walk two mastiffs at the same time.

50 yards away from my dog the pair of them were straining at their leads. He just about managed to hold them. If the collars or leads had failed-who knows?

Idiot owners or bad breed. I'm undecided.

All the mastiffs I know are very pleasant, chilled out, laid back, slobbery big lumps of fat and very lovable.

But again, as any dog - they can turn, they can attack.

But dog/people agressive is not the same and I have a problem when people equal the two.

Gettinready, the OP hasn't stated that the mastiff went for the dogs or the OH initially. She says they were attacked.

    Perhaps OP can clarify?

What a horrible incident for your OH and your dogs.

It might be worth gently encouraging your OH to get back out and about with the dogs when they are all up to it. You don't want this incident to knock his confidence, or the dogs to develop fear issues. Get them walking again with some friendly, calm dogs.

I think the reason people are asking about the circumstances around the attack are because a vet would need to know, before they would agree to have the mastiff PTS. Also, if the dog does get rehomed then it is important that the rescue/new owners know the details of what happened so they can work on triggers etc.

    I hope everyone recovers well.
