And I've just spent 99p on a tax disc holder on eBay.

I suggest you add in that you want compensation for distress and make sure the title includes the word SCAM (must be capitals), it also helps if you can mention that you are not doing it for yourself, but what if you had a baby.1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?0 -
As ANPR is only fitted to kitted out vans and traffic cars how are the panda plods going to know? pull you to check? or are they going to spend the cash on the police to allow them to kit every car in the entire fleet across britain and the british isles?
will I become legislation that any driver on the road has to ensure he electronically checks that the vehicle he is driving is taxed? if so how will we prove we did this check will we have to by legislation register our detail on a online DVLA portal? what will happen to those then like the elderly and poor or no internet area's. how will this data be handled by the DVLA who are known to sell on details.0 -
I am sure the government know how much tax disc cash they should get each year, I am sure they know how many litres of road fuel are sold each year. A simple sum to calculate how much they need to put on a litre of fuel and make it a real green tax, use it, pollute it, pay it. Virtually unavoidable and one less thing for plod to have to worry about enforcing. Even those with their pre 1973 vehicles currently not paying anything will make their contribution.0

Does not always work though, both my kids have bought cars that were showing as taxed for 11 months on line. When they got them there was no disc as both were taxed as disabled and the dealer then only supplied 6 months.~Chameleon~ wrote: »Presumably there will be an online database or app that can be checked similar to the MID one for insurance. Actually, thinking about it, you can already check online whether a vehicle is taxed on the gov website.0 -
Well it give you a clue to the whether the other driver who has just rear-ended you, is insured or not for a start. Without anything on display, how is the average person going to know whether other cars are fully legit? There are those of us that like to know these things
It's quite possible to check insurance and tax status of a car online, or even using a nifty little phone app these days

I guess their point is that by paying by DD you are paying mainly in arrears, so it is only fair that you pay more as otherwise they'd be giving you an interest free loan.I thought the Direct Debit option was a good idea - until I read this bit:
The new option of paying by monthly direct debit is also expected to cost 5% more than paying for a full year in one go.
No benefit at all.
They should make it like the direct debit for the TV licence - where you pay 6 months in advance and 6 months in arrears and so it balances out so you can pay the same annual total by monthly DD as if you paid it all in one go.0 -
I grow weary of this ridiculous 'argument'. They're not mutually exclusive, astoundingly it is entirely possible to own and use a bike as your primary means of commute (for example) and yet still own and run one or multiple cars! Who knew!
You have got to kidding me! How many wheels do these nutters want!

Unfortunately this suggestion is far too sensible. However I presume any government doesn't want to be seen increasing fuel prices (especially at the moment).
If this ever did see the light of day, I doubt the change would be revenue neutral for the treasuries coffers (yes they can't get it bang on obviously), as the thought of millions in extra revenue would be too tempting to resist
