It's arrived, i've installed, it says I now have 512mb RAM...yet I feel no difference, everything is as slow as ever, and it told me I was running low on virtual memory a few moments ago, despite being connected to the internet and running Rambooster only (also have a firewall running)

Do I need to do anything else? Would a de-frag help?

Which Operating System are you running...? How many programs begin at StartUp?
    Have you run; http://www.ccleaner.com/ ?

Changing the paging file size to 768 MB (512 x 1.5) should prevent the low virtual memory warning, but it really depends how much RAM the programs you're running are using. See http://www.theeldergeek.com/physically_setting_the_page_file_size.htm

Donnie, OS is XP - reply 10.

    XP.

I have ccleaner and it has done it's work.

Startup - I choose selective startup

    Systray
    dslstat
    dslagent
    Mpftray (Mcafee firewall)
    AOL Software
    AOL 9.0 tray icon

    That's it.

Thanks, i've done that and see what happens.

The only programs I was using at that stage were RamBooster and the AOL Dialler.

Could any installed programs be an issue?

I've installed quite a few lately (MS Office, Nero, AVG 7.5, AVG Anti Spyware amongst others) as i've been upgrading the PC

    The De-frag did nothing

Sorry. Not familiar with AOL software. What exactly is slow on the computer?

You may be able to try; http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=477253

If it doesn't help, you can un-install it.

I don't even load up the full software for AOL when going online, so doubt it's that.

The programs are slow to load up and if more than 1, slow to go from 1 to another.

Windows loads up very slowly - I had a message just now 'you have just recovered from a serious system error' - No idea what it is, it was some Dir files in temp folder?

Chippy's suggestion of the page file size has helped a little.

Thanks for the suggestion of the system mechanic thing, although my history of using them deters me as i've ballsed up systems doing that.

I have ad-aware Pro and AVG spyware full program and AVG 7.5 Pro anti virus - are these alot better than the free ones? As maybe they are using alot of memory or something?

I can't think what it could be.

Your graphics card seems puny. Can you confirm the specification?

Some details of your system specification can be arrived at by using this program; http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php

Download it and run the .exe file.

Go to the about tab and click on html or register dump. That should produce an output with your system details. There nothing identifiable or sensitive.
    You can post it here.
