I was once told 'you can never share too much'. Not sure I agree! However, in this case I definitely say: share! :j"It is often said that before you die your life passes before your eyes. It is in fact true. It's called living." Terry PratchettBought our house 2012

You are all very kind and very funny! Glad to know your MSE love is unconditional in the face of mad hen lady behaviour! And speaking of which ...You risk losing your friends if you DON'T share(my money is on a lullaby :rotfl:).

The new ones seem so fragile at bedtime, they really don't want to go into the coop where lairy pair lurk just like the Jurassic Park velociraptors, because the minute they're in there, May and Bessie really start on them. Edna especially just makes little squeaks which sound like she's in real distress and I hate it because I don't want them to feel that they've had a frying pan / fire kind of rescue situation.
So, I pick up each one and put her in the coop ... they seem to have a place they go to which leaves poor old Edna on an end, close to Bossy Bessie, so I put my arm alongside Edna to fend off any pecking from lairy pair and a few nights ago seemed to be really having to fend it off by almost pushing Bessie back which didn't seem right ... I want them all to feel contented, not all to feel aggrieved or "got at."
So I figured that as hens sing and chatter when they're contented, a bit of singing might help to ease them all and it worked! Within 5 minutes, Edna had her little head on my arm and her eyes closed, Dora was doing the wobble head thing babies do and Bessie and May went from standing on full alert to settling down (in a grumpy old woman kind of way).
So now every night we have several rounds of "train a-whistle blowing" etc and "you are my sunshine."Neighbour and husband think I am beyond cracked, but I don't mind that if it means poor old fragile Edna ends her day feeling secure. Of course, Mr. Hbbb thinks sleep is a purely defensive act to shut me up ...!
Back to talk about money later xx
