Why, thank you A*M, that's kind!

The most important factor to me for starting a thread was that it would keep me focused on the very important mortgage matters in hand.

However, although it has indeed started to fulfill that, the importance of that aspect to me is fast being overtaken by how much I'm appreciating the overwhelming support that has come from others
    * of my thread itself
    * of my personal MF endeavours
    * and of the whole general MSE and frugal living challenges

It's been unexpectedly gaining that whole sense of community (and personal) support which has given the true value to my having a MF thread ~ and I love it!

Thanks to yourself and everyone for that!
    :D

I so totally agree with you! There's many a day when the finances simply potter on, yet the warmth and support and endless loveliness are fresh every day on here. It's always a joy and pleasure to log on, read, post and generally be inspired. Thank you to yourself and everyone else too!

  • Sounds like a lovely day yesterday Hbbb, despite the wet

Well done on the MOP (s) - that's fantastic :j

Hope you have managed to keep a little dryer today!
Although I think that would entail staying inside for the day, pooch walking for us today resulted in two drowned rat looking adults and dogs :rotfl:
We are currently drying off with a cup o tea :D

Janine, we did manage to avoid most of the showers but they did only get their shorter walk (small park nearby) rather than the longer one we like to do of a weekend. Fingers crossed tomorrow will be a little dryer!

Ta about the MOPs, having a focus on it is really helping!

Well today was quiet and good, feel extraordinarily tired in my bones tho!

;)Today's MFW action: re-started my QCo investigation of pet insurance, cutting this down to a cheaper variety will be this week's focus and the saving will go in the MOP, so let's see what deal we can get!

:(Today's grey cloud: just tired, that's all.

:)Today's silver lining: mum popped around (on way back from my sister's house, she likes to do the rounds)! She brought a top round for me: she'd bought a matching skirt and top but feels like it's too much to wear together, so she's keeping skirt as it's comfy for her and given me top as it's a similar colour to a cardi she gave me a couple of birthdays ago. So long as we don't wear the respective items at the same time, we should be fine! New top for nada!

:pDaily Declutter: courier man back again for 3 more parcels. Honestly, we'll be on first name terms soon ... and Fleabay have free listing again this weekend! 35 / 365 ~ incidentally that's been £93 additional income so far in Feb from Fleabay sales, must update £5 a day bit in signature! Am not adding that to MOPs for a mo, will wait till end of the month and see what's left as I tend to use this money for in / out stuff like getting printer cartridges and meal worms for hens, all the things which I know are cheaper through certain Fleabay sellers.

:DToday's simple pleasures: cuddles ~ cheap as chips!

Hope everyone's OK and not struggling too much with the water and no electricity. Big hugs if you are.

Still impressed with decluttering. Mine has consisted of taking a stick blender back to Currys today with receipt and getting a replacement. Hurrah!! Didnt realise was a free ebay listing so thats tomorrow eve sorted!
Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!

Thanks Watty, it's only because flea baying has been quite successful this month last month it was freecycle, but that seems to have stalled at the moment ... I keep putting the same old stuff on there but no-one wants it. I'm not sure whether to just let it go to the tip instead next time Mr Hbbb goes with garden rubbish (will be a while before garden dries out enough to do that tho) or whether to hang on to it all until the boot sales start. It's sure to go if I put it on as boot sale misc. as if someone thinks they'll get a few £ from it, they're sure to take it - and good luck to them!

Yes, I'll be there too tomorrow eve! Mr Hbbb's stopped asking me what I'm doing when the lappy comes out after tea on Sundays! Happy listing Watty!

  • Hi Hbbb.
Just updating with your thread whilst I have a few minutes to myself. As you know Im more of a lurker than a poster !
Just a little about me whilst Im feeling talkative:
I was initially attracted by the title of your thread because for about 2 years now I have been throwing what I can at our mortgage knowing that my husbands job is far from stable - and looking more and more so in recent weeks.
Im well aware that my own wage doesnt even cover the mortgage payments let alone the bills or life in general but the overpayments I have built up so far will keep the roof over our heads for a few months at least.
Anyway, enough doom and gloom from me. Its a beautiful day out there today so Im off to take my lad out without the waterproofs on for the first time in ages !

Hi TK thanks for stopping by to chat. I understand exactly where you're coming from. Do you know the preparing for winter thread over on the OS board? It's basically all about being prepared for the worst eventualities of a big freeze and in my mind my MF endeavours are motivated the same way, it's about getting ahead and planning for the worse to improve our chances if that worst thing does happen.

Good on you for making the best of a shaky situation and preparing in case you too have something of a bleak time ahead. I wish you plenty of luck and offer a sympathetic ear as needed too!.

:T it was sunny like a proper spring day here today!

;) Today's MFW actions: NSD, more stuff listed as part of Fleabay's free listing weekend, store cupboard dinner for 2!

:(Today's grey cloud: another tree down in little park, this time over a path so they'll have to do something about it - the previous one down is still sprawled across one of the main greens approx 6 weeks later!

:) Today's silver lining: sorted through yarn stash & have enough to make chunky jumper for friend with birthday next month, will start that tomorrow!

:pDaily Declutter: old bedcover I'd previously had on freecycle but no takers is now lining boot of car for doggy journey comfort = 36 / 365

:DToday's simple pleasures: when I was scrubbing henhouse this morn there was a moment when, with my eyes closed, the warmth of the sun on my back and the sound of seagulls and wood pigeons in my ears, I could almost remember what summertime is like! And it can't come soon enough!

Hope you've all had a great weekend! X

  • Hi Hbbb, cheers for the tip about the thread on the OS board. I have been reading with interest.
We have had some good news today. Hubby has managed to swerve the latest round of head chops ("Corporate Restructuring" they are calling it !) so I can breathe again for a little while.
It makes me more and more determined to put as many measures in place that I can, whilst I can.
