I think it's a case of 'one more year' syndrome. I could work till I died and then some before I saved a fund like that :rotfl:. Best not tell him what size pot I'm going on
.
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effortMortgage Balance = £0

lol ... my pot is less than 1/10th of his ... but then our needs are very different ... i do think there is a lot of one more year people out there, it must be scary to change your life and start to draw on the savings instead of gain new ones, I th ink thats one if the things i am enjoying about his diary, he is very open and honest and is helping many people understand the emotional side of retirement, which i will be honest until i started reading his diary ( oh way way way back when he started it) it was something i never really thought about0

You've motivated me to carry on with Marine Life's diary. I got a little put off by the size of the potMade it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!0 -

It is a big pot :T:T and i'm delighted for him, he obviously works really hard ( thats not to say that i and others dont) But i've noticed with ML and a few others their problems and worries are the same whether it is a huge 1.3m pot or a small £100,000 pot, i think thats one of the things i really like about it.
I remember once a friend talking to me on the phone in a huge panic asking me what to do, she was down to her last £60k in savings and didnt know how she was going to get by, i was like eh £60k thats the stuff of my dreams i have no savings ( didnt at the time) and am in deep debt ( was at the time) it taught me the fantastic lesson that everyone has what they class as a crises but to others it isnt, so i can read about ML and think yep that must be a worry for you.0 -
Hello El! Yes, the sizes of the pots are pretty different, aren't they? At the moment, I'm thinking that in spite of my pot being so low, I'm bringing *forward* my retirement date. I've been saying for ages that I don't want to do the work anymore, as my business partner reminded me today, so I have to take notice of that, especially because its potentially ruining my health.2023: the year I get to buy a car0

Absolutely Kc, there's no glory in being the richest person in the cemetery, there are calculators that can help you figure your number out, have you ever looked at any?
My problem is knowing how much we spend, gonna have to try really hard to keep on top it this year0 -

I haven't, to be honest (looked at any retirement income calculators) ... I won't be for a while, as well as getting well, this month is **filled** with tax returns, English and French, plus my professional re-accreditation (though as I'm not being audited this year, that one's pretty simple).
But I will, in February, promiseI'll ask you about them nearer the time
