Thats great, El! How interesting to work out what to do while taking your own psychology into account, and looking at the longer term finances.
For me I think a holistic approach works best, purely looking at things from a financial aspect is discounting the foibles of my life, i think everyone has to do whats right for them, but find looking at the whole subject works best for us0 -
Great news...and they have done what is best for them which is great.Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!0 -
Exams done thankfully, now just awaiting the results
A wee shift today and tomorrow .. all money for the pot... turned out we spent £60 on food last week so I need to somehow try and cut £10 off of this. I'm sure I will manage

Butti your card has been sitting here on my kitchen bunker since before you got your house... i cant at this time find my purse to get a stamp to post it ... i will get it done ASAP honest xxxx
well sitting here biding my time waiting for a paper result to come in, feeling rather nervous about it but hoping i have done enough to pass.
Money wise i have Tilly tidied some money away which is always handy and i am about to do the weeks financials, i'm dreading this months gas bill as even though we have been using the fire constantly we are still using the gas to heat the house ( maybe i need more fires lol)
Have managed to work some days last week and Mr El got a wee bit of overtime as well, all money for the pot and it should help us clear our feet quicker.
Mr El and i have been finding ourselves discussing retirement or atleast cutting back an awful lot, we know it is a long time away for the two of us ( atleast 18 years) but we are finding the daily grind of work place politics and getting up at 5 am annoying and tiring, we have been looking forward to our saturdays together ( i tend to work sundays) where we wake up when were ready have a pot of coffee from the beans we've just ground, have a good breakfast and lazily decide what we want to do that day, more often than not because Mr El's parents are getting older now we are finding our weekends are dealing with things for them, even when they are on holiday we are finiding we are having to deal with stuff for them... it's not a problem in the sense that we grudge doing it or have issues etc but it is in a way kinda when do we get time to us, that wee three hour window on a saturday morning is our time with no stresses of the we need to get to iron clothes for work tidy up be in bed by 10.30pm so we can get up at 5am shattered and done in. So we have found ourselves having a lot of cant wait till we retire chats... you know the" cant wait till we retire we can finally get the chance to go for a walk when it suits us rather than when we get a spare 20 mins" type chats?
This has both a negative and positive impact on our mental well being i am finding, negative in the sense we are starting to wish our lives away ... the bit "one day we will" talks make the future seem closer yet further away in some senses, and life is short and very finite, so we need to get away from this cycle of wishing our lives away
the positive would come from simple things like we recognise we really enjoy time together, we have a plan to make that as often as we can, it is helping us hone our retirement plans and it stops us spending money on things we really don't need, we find ourselves thinking along the lines of, do i want that new computer or would the one that works do me and it would mean we can be closer to our goal.
Our financial life has most deff permeated into all other aspects of our life now, we have a goal and we are heading for it, with checks and balances along the way, sometimes for example its good to just go and blow some money, go for a meal, buy a wee treat for yourself... but keeping your eye on the prize ensure you don't waste money like you used to
or atleast that is how we have found it0 -
Great post! Just about sums up how I've progressed too from pay off pay off pay off to yes but what do I really want thinking....Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

That is a great post! And there's obviously some more thinking to be done, I didn't realise I was doing the wishing my life away thing at one stage, so its great you've copped to it - how can you sort it? Or make some steps to it, anyway ?2023: the year I get to buy a car0
