Hope you don't mind me subscribing Liltdiddylilt. Congratulations to your friend on her bundle of joy.

I know what you mean about odd start times for work. I used to work in retail and hated the lunchtime starts. Felt like I couldn't get anything done all day!

The days we goto the beach first are when I start at 4pm! Lunchtime starts are pants for doing anything else in! Xx

Hello Penguins! Nope, you're more than welcome to join in! I shifted back to the old version of the forums briefly so that I could subscribe to everyones diaries and have done so! Now I am back on the new version. Flawed as it is, I do prefer it these days after so long using!

Lucky, I am so excited for going to said newborn cuddles! Mondayyyyyyyyyy!! I am so broody it is not true! Her full given name is Amelia Jane but she will be known as Mia, and has been since we discovered she is a she!

I am still in awe of your pre-work organising skills. I couldn't quite get myself going the 2 days it has happened to me recently. I work 8:30 to 5 Weds to Friday usually and I prefer it that way. I wouldn't mind so much if I finished at 12:15 like you do when your half day is a morning... :) Plenty of time to DO things then!

New little person is doing very well. Her 2 year old big brother is doing very well and seems taken with his new baby sister apparently. She was 8lbs 3oz, the home birth went well for everyone except for the sofa. Poor sofa is having a man come over to clean and sterilise it on Sunday. Apparently as the ambulance crew got there before the Midwives, the chap didn't think to put anything down on it before he had her lying down giving birth! So undignified, this becoming a mother malarkey.

In other news, I went to the shop to fetch bread as it was needed, and got the cash out for my present for the new arrival and a weekly shop. So tomorrow WILL be a spend free day if I can stick within budget. I have meal planned... A real, actual plan of meals for the week! Now I need to use it to figure out what it actually requires from the supermarket and we will be away :)

I have had such a bad back today. I can't stress enough how bad. I cried. Whilst walking around a supermarket carrying a basket with some yellow sticker bagels and 2 loaves of bread in it. I wish I could lend the pain to my MIL, just for 24 hours. MIL is a staunch believer in zero medication unless absolutely necessary. She doesn't believe that 3 ruptured disks and countless other injuries, plus muscle spasms from overworked back muscles trying to cover up the damage require medication. I had only taken 2 co-codamols today before my supermarket trip and they had long since worn off. I've been assured by the doctors repeatedly that I manage my medication perfectly myself and they have no worries about the effects on me, or the potential implications such as addiction. But such is the look of disdain sometimes when I speak of it, that I can't help but feel guilty for taking the tablets. The relief when I got home, took some tablets and felt them kick in was so immense I almost cried again. I need to pay attention to my body not other peoples opinions.

So exhausted, partially from pain and partially from walking about 6 miles today. Jellys 2 year old check up went well and she has passed all stages for her age group, bar one about drinking from a proper cup. She does, she just makes a mess... We will work on it.

Off to try and write my shopping list... Wish me luck! Night all :) xx

    Hey lilt,
So sorry to hear about your back. Easier said than done I know, but from personal experience, until people know what real pain is like, they generally can't understand. I can also identify with feeling guilty re: pain meds, but when the alternative is making you cry (sending lots of hugs btw) then it's more than ok to forget other people and do what feels right for you.
Hope it settles down soon x

There's a chart for being able to drink from a proper cup?!?! My dh wouldn't pass that one!

Keep taking the meds. My dad does that and I know it just helps him cope with the pain and still be able to do more than simply function and get through the day - he is able to do things he enjoys and wants to do. He has a shelf in the kitchen that looks like a chemist's!

Hey lilt - hope your weekend is a good 'un. Was thinking of you this morning. I don't know if you have a mrS supermercado nearby? Their 'basiks' t bags are 20p for 40 and make a good cuppa (this, from someone that doesn't really drink tea - sheesh!)

Anyhoo, I know Tea is a very subjective thing, and we all have our fave brands etc, but if you've a store nearby and a spare 20p one time, then a pack is worth a punt...... :)

Aww, happy to hear that your friend's birth went well. Are there such things as NHS sofas? :rotfl:

    RE: Meds
No one knows your body like you do, doctors know the names and what is responsible for what, friends know if you're limping but you know when you need medication.
It was something told to me by a pain-specialist nurse. The same one who prescribed me tai chi. http://www.taichi.uk.com/nhs.html
It's very good, it's mostly teaching you how to give your body a break.

Good morning all you lovely people.

Thank you for your kind words. I am sorry for the moany tone of my post. I am (usually) an upbeat and positive person when it comes to pain/illnesses etc. Frankly if I started to wallow in the problems that I have, I wouldn't get out of bed, so I don't think about it, I just get on! I think it is this that leads others to think that there isn't all that much wrong and I pop pills for the sake of it.

Once I filled in a health questionnaire. Where it gave 5 options from Extremely Healthy to Extremely Unhealthy, I posted myself as number 2, Very Healthy. On the next page it asked me to list my illnesses, conditions, diseases etc. It gave about 50 options, and I was merrily ticking away when a box popped up on the screen. "You may only choose 5 options!" I have never laughed so much in my life! :rotfl:

Giblet, Apple, Lucky I try not to feel guilty for the meds, but it is hard to feel judged. Usually by those people who are blessed with very good health despite the large volumes of nicotine, alcohol & other unfriendly items they push into their bodies on a regular basis. Funny how these things work ;)

GP At that price I shall most certainly be dropping in to Mr S! I got 480 for £5.50 from Mr T's and they are a hit with everyone. I live in a town which hosts a huge Mr A, a Mr M, and a Mr S within walking distance. Then a bit further but still walkable, is another large Mr S & a Mr T. Blessings. We also have L!dl. The only one too far to get to is A!di. I do wish all of them allowed me to shop online so that I could work out where to get what. :)

I still have not managed my shopping list yet. But my meal plan is in actual fact an experimental mix of a few recipes that GP & Supersaver gave me along with a few I have discovered online. And some good old favourites which don't take a lot of time, ingredients or imagination. I think we should be good!

I will report back on the spends! Got to update my YNAB today too. It is officially August. :) Where has this year gone?!?!

What is everyone up to for the weekend? Today is about resting, getting the shopping done properly and prepping some dinners. Tomorrow I will worry about the cleaning ;)

Cross posting Peaty! (Why does that sound vaguely naughty?! :rotfl:)

Yes your nurse sounds very true. The doctors do seem to just give me carte blanche to do as I please. I request something, they hand over a prescription! I am looking forward to the steroid injections as I may actually get some genuine relief! Would be nice not to take the pills :)

Off to research tai-chi. I can't even do basic physio exercises at the minute. I am reduced to wiggling my legs gently and doing 'tension' exercise. :/
