Speaker/audio/sound problem on the PC

If you have various sound input/output sockets i.e. front & rear, you should have some audio configuration software installed to configure your hardware. You should find this in Control Panel if it is installed, if not it will need to be installed. You should then be able to select in the mixer screen, which input is used as the source as shown below::doh: Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

When it offers me 4 options for mic settings which one should I pick?
HD audio front mic
HD audio aux in
HD audio digital in
HD audio rear input.
I'm guessing the first & last are if you want to plug it in the front or the back?
Do I just pick one of those?
Do I need to know anything about the middle ones?0 -
The first one for the front microphone socket. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

Done that both tabs AUDIO & VOICE in the sounds & audio devices folder in control panel are now BOTH set to front, still not working.
On a slightly seperate issue, I have musicmatch jutebox installed & I hate it. It comes on as the default playback & I would much rather use the windows one.
But when I go to add & remove programmes in the control panel, ot won't let me remove it. It gives error messages that seem more like it thinks I'm trying to add than remove?
How can I get rid of it?0 -
Think I may have figured musicmatch out, I think its not fully installed from the reload of windows (remember I haven't used any audio since then), so if I finish installing I should be able to uninstall?0

Done at least I managed that0

When I plug in & out mics (& when I move the headset/mic about) I can see the sound levels go up & down on the audocity software the same way as they used to do when I was using it before when it worked.
I've done the hardware test in the audio & sounds folder in control panel & my voice doesn't make the sound meter move, but me moving the wires on the headset/mic I'm using does.0 -

Could it be that the microphone is the wrong type i.e. not matched or not sensitive enough. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
I've got three here, keep trying them all & they all worked before reload.0

Where do you think I should take it too for someone to sort it out?
As I said the local man charges £50, would PC be more or less do you think?0
