A small amount of cash in a drawer, just in case
Or even a larger amount of cash and preferably not in a drawer.
And a basic food stock - I'm amazed that some people even said they had to go hungry.

I know I'm old and stupidly out of fashion but..... what's wrong with
    wages/pension in bank
    wages/pension out bank
    use cash to buy food
stash rest under mattress to pay bills when they come in
save the rest in case of probs like this
    :D works for us!

Does your home insurance cover the amount of cash you keep under the mattress?

Indeed "most" people in the UK do indeed realise that for critical items in their lives they need a backup (cash/other card in this case) or some alternative plans available.

Its just the microscopic minority who don't understand this - and some who probably never will that post their rants on twitter and on here.

On Radio 4 Today program at around there was a brief section on this - and then they had a longer segment on the role of women in the SOE during WWII.
At the end of it the presenter said something along the lines of - well, that story brings into the perspective the minor issues of bank cards not working for a short period doesn't it.
    Nicely put I thought!
  • I've been with Natwest for four years now but this is seriously starting to become a major confidence issue. With Christmas coming up I can't transfer my accounts quickly enough to guarantee I'll get my wages paid in, plus switch direct debits coming out through the month.

Also, pretty shot on the credit score front so I'm not going to get a decent deal.

Looks like the problems are resolved - for now, just hoping they will stay that way until after Christmas

Natwest seems to be down again as of 10am today. Did log in earlier and found a load of credits from the last few days missing.
