I can now log in, and I hope I have made a faster payment. It has left my Natwest account but has not arrived the other end. Might just be because they have until the end of the next working day to get it there.
Ditto with UlsterBank - not arrived at Santander. Though in 'normal' times such an FP between those two accounts arrives instantly.

However, I for one still can't access NatWest.

My recipient is also with Santander. Who knows whether it is Ulster/RBS or Natwest/RBS or Santander or the stuff in between them that isn't working, but something isn't working.

DS1 away at uni trying to pay for a prescription with a natwest card. Failed. :( His backup card has no cash on it. I can't transfer money to it from either my Natwest account or RBS. :(

You would think by now people would realise not to rely on just one functioning bank account.

    Plus different banks!

I have two current accounts with one bank, a bank account with another bank, which I can transfer funds from the esavings account linked to it plus a credit card with a 3rd bank. So if my primary bank systems do a NatWest, I have back up funds.

Why bother taking any responsibility of your own money when you can just hand it all over to a bank with a dodgy IT record and then have an excuse for a good old rant?

I do think it's rather refreshing that there haven't been any NATWEST ARE TRYING TO STARVE MY BABY TO DEATH!!!!!!!! posts yet though!

The bank of mattress is looking increasingly tempting.
Seriously if you can manage it, keep a sizable cash float. ;)

Online banking appears to be running again (for now...) but overnight payments don't seem to have been processed yet. Argh.

Seriously, what on earth is going on with Nw? It's just 1 thing after another!

One of the many reasons why I am finally leaving them can't be doing with the stress this incredibly stupid bank's caused me of late. Even when you have money in your account they still cause awful problems.

I used to work for their streamline dept and even then their profits weren't that great, using outdated systems. It's not really a surprise what with the trouble they keep causing.

I wouldn't be surprised (can't remember actually what OS's they were using in branches but they're the same in the card centre's), but when other banks were going with more up to date ones natwest were still using NT4 back in say 2003-2005 (can't vouch for after though). They've always had an uncanny ability to be behind allot of the other banks that are completely independent from them (like outside of RBS I mean).

Though the only thing they have going for them is their level of sys security but that's about it, it's like when one does an upgrade to any type of systems eventually they just start to fall apart.
Doing some indepth analysis of my outgoings it's a real eye opener!

I find if I keep paying by card and keeping the receipts insisting that I have them from the shop, then itemising them when I get home on excel makes my life a whooole lot easier!

Bank systems can and will go down. I'd be surprised if, over the last few years, any bank has avoided a situation like RBS / Nat West enjoyed last night.

Although they do have more form than most.

So while I'd always encourage leaving a bank that regularly naffs you off, make sure you do so with precautions.

Primary account with one banking group
Secondary account with another banking group
Savings account with an ATM card with another banking group
A small amount of cash in a drawer, just in case
Credit cards with two different banking groups too

Your bank systems can fail. The payments system can fail. ATM networks can crash. They usually recover.
