Co-op in Whitby

Hi
I'm new to this so hopefully am in the right place. In August 2013 I parked in the car park at Co-op whitby for too long before I realised that there was a time limit to getting a ticket from the machine for parking. I had my baby in the car and was waiting for my husband. Anyway, I bought a ticket after arguing the toss with the woman who was manning the machine. Then I went into the shop and spent over the required amount to get free parking, but didn't take ticket with me, but the bloke on the till said to keep the receipt and it would be fine. Since then I have had 2 salmon coloured letters headed Parking Contravention Enforcement Notice Reminder and did try to ring to explain but it is a payment only line, based in Liverpool. I looked on the internet to see what the advice was, and generally it seemed to be don't pay, so I left them, waiting for them to stop. I have a two year old, work full time and have a life, so forgot about the letters to be honest, then since the 11th November 2013 i have had 2 letters from Debt Recovery Plus Ltd talking about intended court action for £140. The deadline to pay on the letter is 10th December. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I was gonna tough it out, but am unsure as to whether I should just pay up. Oh, I did move house in the summer and am having post re-directed by the post office. Will this make it more difficult for them to catch up with me? I wouldn't usually do this, but I do think the system at the co-op is a bit crap, not giving the user much time to get the ticket and then no come back if you get the ticket too late.
Thanks

Here's this morning's latest DRP query already answered:
https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4836466
Do search the forum for the word 'Recovery' as I suggested to that poster as well as reading the NEWBIES and SUCCESSFUL COMPLAINTS sticky threads as it's never too late to try an appeal and to complain to the retailer. You missed the actual appeal period but don't beat yourself up over it, please search the forum and read the sticky threads that are relevant. Don't try to PHONE the scammers! The Co-op should cancel it so it amazes me people don't complain quicker.
Can't handle all these DRP threads...PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

well , I have been looking on the internet for several months this year for advice on these parking charges and I have never noticed 2013 advice saying "ignore" , its always been the same advice as is contained in the sticky threads here, so advised one relative to complain to the shop - ticket cancelled back in summer, another one got the PE charged cancelled after appealing with receipts attached (detailed in my thread on here a few weeks ago) and currently waiting on a third by another relative as regards a POPLA appeal for a short overstay
my point here being that any responsible forums I have seen do not tell you to ignore the tickets, unless you are in Scotland or N.I. that is
the what ifs may seem relevant but generally arent of importance (the how , the why etc)
these parking companies dont care about the reasons, they just want your money for breaking the "rules" , for rushing , for any reason they can think of, just pay up is all they want - no compassion , no common sense , no sense !!
guys-dad summed it up in a post here

Hiya Redx
It wasn't actually on this site that I saw the advice saying ignore it, it was on a different one, I didn't actually find this til the last week or so, don't know if its sacrilege to say that but hey ho. Thanks for the advice all, I'll check out these stickies.

Nah we don't mind hearing about CAB and how they give...ermmm...strange 'advice'! If it was pepipoo you read very old threads as they say the same as we do and we have done for months.
Anyway you have options, just not as many as you did have if you'd appealed in time.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
