Are you saying then that there should be a written law (or right) that states you must own 2 or more houses as an investment or none at all?

I see nothing wrong with people wanting to own thier own home. It is not a right but something to work towards.

I am implying that there is no need to own your own home. Many people you have never owned their own home do not realise that there are many costs that are hidden to them whilst they are renting (Buildings insurance, instantly springs to mind). There is nothing wrong with wanting to own your own home (or any property for that matter), but the decision to buy should be an informed one and not based on sentiment or trying to keep up with the Joneses.

In regards to owning property as an investment, I cannot think of a single 25-year period over that last 100 years where growth in property prices has outstripped equities.

The problem in Cornwall is not a lack of rental property, it is a general lack of property compounded by people buying up extra homes that they do not need. So that those that do need them are left without anything.
"Mrs. Pench, you've won the car contest, would you like a triumph spitfire or 3000 in cash?" He smiled.
Mrs. Pench took the money. "What will you do with it all? Not that it's any of my business," he giggled.

For me this is a symptom of the appalling houe price inflation that has grasped this country for the last decade. The one`s that have benefited(so far)have been Nu Labour.Lots of loverly house stamp duty and a nice dollop of cgt whan the second property is sold.Couple that, and more importantly, the encouragement to people to mew.Hey voila,a miracle economy.

Coming very shortly to your local cinema is ``Miracle Economy 2``PAY BACK TIME!
  • Properties bought solely for investment and not let should attract triple council tax and no CGT taper relief. Squatters welcome.

Properties bought as holiday homes and not let between holidays should also attract higher council tax and full CGT. Squatters partially welcome.

Properties bought for BTL and occupied for the majority of the year should be seen as a welcome addition to the property solutions market. If nobody had ever bought a BTL we would still have high house prices. The ONLY solutions are more houses or less people.

    :)

i'm sorry I do not agree with this at all.

In fact it's dispicable. No it's not fair that local people are being pushed out of thier area because of lack of property but that does not mean you should take something thats not yours because of some stupid sqatters rights.

I've just bought my own home and would hate to think while we are doing it up and living in our rented home until the tenacy was up someone just decided to move in and it was ok.

If you couldn't afford a car and one was sitting by the side of the road and you broke in and drove it wouldn't that be stealing.

Its down right theft!!!. People have paid for those homes, it's thier names on the deeds it's thier property. whether this is legally ok it's totally morally wrong.

What an example to set!!!. i'm horrified. I cannot condone this at all!!! sorry
