No 128 sadly withdrawing for 2014. The oh-so-more-cleverer than me people on this board have made me realise that now is not the time to be mortgage OP-ing, and instead those funds will be OP-ing a personal loan.
So sorry JCL to cause you extra admin
If all goes to plan I'll be back with a vengeance in 2017, ready to batter the mortgage and pay it off in around 8 years!0 -
Hello I would like to join in please. Skipping over from my deposit saving thread on house buying.
My mortgage outstanding in £158,500. 25 yrs remaining.
We are only allowed to overpay by 3k for the next 5 years so will do that.
However, we are aiming to be mortgage free in 5 years. We will put the difference (roughly 28k) each year in a savings account ready to pay off when the 5 yr fixed period expires. This will see us mortgage free in 5 years - at age 36. Fingers crossed!MANAGED TO CLEAR A 3K OVERDRAFT IN ONE FRUGAL, SUPER CHARGED MONEY EARNING MONTH!:j

#126 checking in
Have just made an OP of £17,846.97
Way more than I anticipated but had an unexpected windfall so have maxed out our 10% OP for this year. Gives us a total for the year of £17,942.35
There won't be any further OP's this year, but already have next years 10% ready and half of the following years - by which point we'll be out of our tie in period and in a position to switch (potentially) to a repayment.
Thanks for running this, I feel a bit of fraud saying target reached because it wasn't as a result of our direct efforts, but still we have reached the target and we are all in it for the same end result so I hope people as ok with this.

This week's update has been done. New numbers allocated to Lotti1982 (34) and RoxieW (130).

Another £499.99 OP'd today by #30
March total so far £999.98, running total for 2014 £3841.96
Feel like I'm cheating a little. This OP is the first one this year that has come from savings not extra earnings... Have decided to OP the full 10% annual allowance over the course of the next few weeks from savings, and then repay savings with extra earnings later in the year. It makes life a little simpler for us when planning around maternity pay, and makes a lot of financial sense considering our mortgage rate is higher than our savings rate. I'll stick with this thread, but it's no longer much of a challenge for me really!0
