  • Really annoyed with myself - I somehow managed to miss making the February overpayment! The month finished before I realised!

I paid the £500 off straight away on 1st, so I suppose in the long run, it doesn't make that much difference, but I'm not happy about missing a month. At least I'm making overpayments at the start of the month now, instead of at the end.

    update #128
    Jan: M1 £0 M2 £66.77 - TOTAL £66.77
    Feb: M1 £41.23 M2 £86.77 TOTAL £128
    March: M1 £46.46 M2 £172.77 TOTAL £219.23

So I'm a bit behind target as I didn't get things organised in time. I've upped the monthly standing order on both so that by the end of the year I make up for the shortfall at the start.

My M1 is a residential mortgage with consent to let - but my (reliable, trustworthy, and looks after the property nicely) tenant has just informed me she's looking to move out in July so I'm feeling a bit panic stricken about that. After 3 years of having to top it up myself, that house is finally starting to make me money instead of costing me money! After paying the mortgage, set some aside for the tax man, set some aside for repairs/improvements, it's the M1 house account that pays the OP on itself AND £120 towards M2. My continuing OPs rely on finding another tenant to move in quickly, and I'm (perhaps wrongly) worrying about the unknown - either a long void period or a new tenant who trashes the place and does a runner :(

There's not a lot spare in our monthly budget on the whole, but I do some surveys etc when I can. I'm also in the process of decluttering (I have way too much stuff), and selling what I can. So any proceeds from this will go towards an OP on M2 (higher interest rate so more saving to be made). I have the Halifax £5 thingy account, so that goes on the OP too. Every little helps!

Looking forward to reading about everyone else's MFW journey! :)

Mortgage not yet materialised so no overpayments for me so far :( hopefully won't be much longer :) and deposit will be larger and I still intend to overpay £2000 :)
