  • I did mean to say, can sympathise with all who have toxic siblings, best advice I was given is ignore and keep away if you can, if not just smile, say nix and get away quickly... very difficult. On some occasions, I just know everything I say will be criticised, so saying nothing really (upsets) I mean, calms people.:rotfl:Have had a lovely quiet holiday week without hassle, and hope they have too.

Ok, i'm going to move my lazy aris tomorrow and go get things I need to grow rocket and maybe other things.

Which is best garden centre near Blyth, or will Homebase do for this , assuming H/base sells it? I find Homebase rather expensive usually, but it may pay to go there rather than spend on petrol.
Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.

Wishing everyone a good start to 2014.

On a very positive note, my lovely DD wanted to give some money to the Guillain Barre Syndrome charity. Five years ago her tennis coach was going out to Africa to work with a children's charity, but was struck down with GBS after one of her vaccinations and has just spent her fourth Christmas in hospital. She is making progress, having been completely paralysed, spent months in intensive care and is still unable to walk but is waiting for funding to be approved to move her out of hospital. I told her that DD wanted to give some money to the GBS charity, she decided to set up a donations page and ask her friends and family to think of ways they might be able to raise funds for GBS research (as she put it, lots of friends raising small amounts adds up!). One day later and she has lots of friends offering to raise money and over £100 donated already! I'm not taking the credit, but it makes me think that one small random act of kindness from DD has made a difference (must take a leaf out of her book and follow her example - bet not many parents say that :j )

Off now to think about what I can do that might be useful (except for the ironing, the mountain is far too big to tackle today  ) Another cup of tea may help, is it too early for chocolate biscuits?

Your DD is obviously a very special and caring young lady. Well done, you, too for her upbringing :T

Hello everyone. Just catching up. I got an unexpected invite to lunch at a friends which has been very enjoyable. We always have a good laugh. Now back home in onsie and heating switched on. The cat is snuggled up here beside me.

Need to do some exercise so going to dig out the wii and use that if weather is poor. I love walking so will get out when weather is good. Hope fully get some of this weight off. Used to go walking all over Northumberland. I walk to my voluntary job when I can which is 20 minutes each way. Think I've sickened myself of chocolate over the Xmas.

Still need a couple of jobs doing on the house. Have been getting bits done over the past couple of years. The roof, a new bathroom. Just making sure its sound and secure.

LB Loved the description of you singing and dancing your way into the new year. By the way I have a copy of the HD dieters book you can have.

This thread is going from strength to strength.

Glad you had a lovely lunch!! :j

I'll enjoy walking with you, too when we can coincide time off...

If you're sure about the HD cookbook, I won't say no. As long as you're sure you won't need it. many thanks!! :)

Anywhere really. H/Base is as good as any, though I tend to find their plants are not great quality (or maybe I've killed them ). I tend to go to heighley gate as it's near me on the A697, and they have a garden club card, so i get vouchers every quarter. It's known locally as highly priced :rotfl:, but, like anywhere, you can sift through for bargains...

Enjoy!! Don't forget a bag of compost....

I'm afraid I have no intention of ever seeing or speaking to mine again. I found their behaviour this year at best incomprehensible and at worst, just downright disgusting. I am in complete disbelief that they are anything to do with me...so, I decided they won't be anything to do with me.

I can't say I've missed them per se...more I've missed the idealistic idea of how a family should help and support each other

    But c'est la vie, eh?

    :(

    I will remember compost....lol.

Actually I have some money from mum for xmas/bday...so will use this to set me off with a few things....she'll fall over in shock when I tell her this. she's been trying to get me into gardening for years, but a garden before was always just the dogs playground to me.

Right, I think i'll go sort my stock out and make some soup, and bid all a good evening.
Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.

Do not attempt to feed me mushy cornflakes as I may hit you, I like the milk in one bowl and cornflakes in the other,NO sugar, and you put the milk on spoon first, the a few flakes...and it all stays nice and crunchy.

    :rotfl:...not that you're an8l or anything? :rotfl:

... think I want some grass. I want my bare feet on the ground, earth, it is good for you so they say.

Abso-bloomin-lutely that's good for you. I cannot bear to see all the paving slabs and gravel that so many people go for these days. No good for the bees and butterflies, and other beneficial creatures, no good for your soul :(
