.... and to take you into the New Year, I can recommend setting your home page to www.greatday.com for some encouraging words which are updated each day from Ralph Marston.

I hope 2014 brings you everything you hope for and more.

    Too precious to waste

This is your life, so don’t settle for a cheap imitation. Live each moment of it with substance.
Life is too precious to waste even a little bit of it on meaningless junk. Give your time, your attention, your efforts and your energy to what really matters.
If something doesn’t concern you, don’t let it consume you. If something doesn’t really matter, then let it go.
There are only so many hours in this day. Choose to spend every one of those hours in the service of what truly matters.
Your priorities are based not on what you say or intend, but on what you actually do with your time. Choose positive, meaningful priorities by spending your time in positive, meaningful ways.
Devote yourself to what truly matters. And add more richness to your world with each passing moment.
    — Ralph Marston

And you, too, GQ, I hope you achieve everything you want and need to.

I've bookmarked the site you have recommended. Again, very inspirational. Thank you! :T

    Happy New Year to everyone.

I saw this from earlier in the year and thought it might make some of you smile.

:rotfl: Oh, I loved the giraffes, so elegant. I love the fact that someone has had the imagination to think of this and make it. Fab work :T

The other video made me wince :rotfl:

Re: herbs, they are cheerful things to grow, especially if you like their scent (coriander is my favourite) but have found it more useful to be growing things like rocket, and baby spinach, which can be used as cut-and-come-again salad leaves. If I buy salad or lettuce, I often waste a fair amount as packet or whole lettuce is too big for just little me. But just a few green leaves can make a big difference to a sarnie, or plate of salad. They grow through the winter in our cold conservatory, in a small window box. I also managed to grow lovely cos lettuces last summer, again harvested them a few leaves at a time, hope I can do it again this year.

My resolution for 2014 is definitely to walk more, as I have developed a horrible tyre shaped cushion of fat around hips and belly, yuk!
Have a horrible cold at the moment, and weather is rain and wind so I'm very glad to follow everyone's advice to cuddle down and read some of my stash of books - cant even concentrate on knitting:o
Best New Year wishes to everyone!

Ooo good ideas....i love rocket and buy loads of it, also baby spinach.

Thanks for putting the 'seed'...(lol) of that in my head.

Edit, just googled growing rocket and that seems simple enough for a novice like me. Have bookmarked the info, and if I go out tomorrow am going to get the things I need and some rocket seeds. Yay.....i'm on the road to gardening...of sorts.
Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.

Hello everyone. Just catching up. I got an unexpected invite to lunch at a friends which has been very enjoyable. We always have a good laugh. Now back home in onsie and heating switched on. The cat is snuggled up here beside me.

Need to do some exercise so going to dig out the wii and use that if weather is poor. I love walking so will get out when weather is good. Hope fully get some of this weight off. Used to go walking all over Northumberland. I walk to my voluntary job when I can which is 20 minutes each way. Think I've sickened myself of chocolate over the Xmas.

Still need a couple of jobs doing on the house. Have been getting bits done over the past couple of years. The roof, a new bathroom. Just making sure its sound and secure.

LB Loved the description of you singing and dancing your way into the new year. By the way I have a copy of the HD dieters book you can have.

This thread is going from strength to strength.

I've just found they do foot ones too! :D

Calico, I grew lettuce varieties in small pots, they were mixed but I've narrowed down the ones I like for this year, such as rocket and the lambs lettuce. Nothing nicer than picking a few leaves for your salad or sandwich and using straight away. :T Spring onions were good too.
