Then there's the new carpet it's all adding up  :shhh:

    I missed that...:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Calico, forgot to say, I have an incy wincy garden (all paved) so have used pots/bags/recycling bins to add compost and grow stuff, bit of a learning curve, especially the caulis , but found out what I could grow well, and what...didn't. It's lovely just popping out and picking something fresh.

Honest Officer, the stains on the carpet were where my poorly elderly cat had been sick _pale_ :embarasse

    I've been Money Tipped!
In one of our fields we have a huge hump like a burial barrow. When things look really bleak, as they have a few times in the last couple of years I have joked to my husband that no one would notice if it got a little longer.

Happy new year lavender bees, and everyone else.
  • Who'd have thunk we'd get through this period, and, may I say, not in a shy way, but more, much more than this, we did it our way :rotfl:

Thank you for all your lovely posts, and Mrs Lurcherworker has summed up the wonderful spirit of this thread really well.:T

    LB xx

    :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Ditto re Mrs Lurcherworker :T :T

So now that everyone has dubious thoughts about my blessings/achievements :D I will in all seriousness lay down :D my hopes/resolutions/goals for 2014

Other than the usual budgeting/saving/healthy lifestyle resolutions in 2014, I pledge that I will

    1. Do things I have never done before.
    (a) Bowling, not the ten-pin kind, but outside on a perfectly manicured bowling green. I’m the only one in my family that has never played and I have a lovely set of bowls that belonged to my mother. They are stashed away in the spare room and deserve to be polished off and used.
    (b) Volunteer – maybe a couple of half days in a charity shop – I need to do a bit more research on this one though.
    (c) Craft Activities – learn a new one – there is a shop in town that runs tutorials in the evening and weekends or perhaps see if there is a WI near me.

    2. Socialise more/Meet new people
    (a) Instigate meeting up with friends/former work mates on a regular basis rather that – “Oh it’s been 6 months since we last met”
    (b) Join a Walking/Rambling Group – have found a couple of groups on the internet in my area, just need to break in the walking boots first, bought them ages ago :o.

    3. Continue with house redecoration
    (a) Take my recently acquired skills/confidence in wallpapering and do the hallway/stairs as my next project .

I think that’s enough to be going on with at the moment, but will review in a few months to see how I’m doing.

Long term Goal which I may set up a separate bank account for is a return holiday to New Zealand, can I manage that by February 2015, not sure but I will give it a d**n good try.

I have to say this thread has focussed my thinking, things I’ve been meaning to do for ages and now that I have had the major things done to my house it’s time to focus a bit more on me and start the year as I mean to go on.

LB - this thread has been inspirational and motivational for me, too easily I can just bumble along through life waiting for things to come to me, which in reality they never do – so another of those little quotes from my calendar, “Dreams don’t work unless you do” will be part of my mantra for 2014.

Wishing you and everyone else on the thread a’ the best for 2014.

    xx

    Hello everyone.

Wow what lovely posts I've caught up on and funny ones too.

It's my daughters birthday today so have been down to see her. Felt sorry for her as she is still feeling ill.

Back home now and in my onsie. A quiet evening for me. I see Mama Mia is on later I love that film. Got a few nibbles and that's me set. I've been invited out for lunch tomorrow so looking forward to that.

Wishing you all a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year.

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: Thank you for the laughing out loud in the last couple of pages.

I posted this just now on the '5 pleasures' thread but thought I'd put it here too. For those of you who aren't out celebrating but are still going to be awake I wanted to let you know that I will be lighting a candle and having a 'think' over midnight in the ten minutes or so from the old and into the new year - remembering people who are not with us any more and wishing billions of good thoughts for everyone who is with us for 2014.

If any of you would like to join me that would be lovely. Will be lighting the candle at around about 10 to midnight.

  • Hello, ive been lurking the past few days on tge website in general and have read this thread with interest. It was lovely to read just how much you all turned a potentially difficult week into such a positive, inspirational week.

I have particularly enjoyed how it turned into chat about chickens! :-D :-D :-D

Ive had an upsie downie year which I wont go into but im hoping 2014 is a better one. If its alright with you I may join in with your conversations?

I have no real new yr resolutions other than to eat better, stop ordering takeways, walk more and generally put me and my health at top of my list. No diets for me. Its lifestyle changes. Dont want to be counting calories ;-)

Anyway on a side note, I got friendw boxset for xmas and after reading all your chat about onesies thought I would mention pheobe has one on thats makes her look like an adams family kid.... in a cool way. Still wouldn't wear a onesie myself mind you!

Well enough from me..... happy new year everyone. Hope 2014 is a better year for you all xx
  • .... and to take you into the New Year, I can recommend setting your home page to www.greatday.com for some encouraging words which are updated each day from Ralph Marston.

I hope 2014 brings you everything you hope for and more.

    Too precious to waste

This is your life, so don’t settle for a cheap imitation. Live each moment of it with substance.
Life is too precious to waste even a little bit of it on meaningless junk. Give your time, your attention, your efforts and your energy to what really matters.
If something doesn’t concern you, don’t let it consume you. If something doesn’t really matter, then let it go.
There are only so many hours in this day. Choose to spend every one of those hours in the service of what truly matters.
Your priorities are based not on what you say or intend, but on what you actually do with your time. Choose positive, meaningful priorities by spending your time in positive, meaningful ways.
Devote yourself to what truly matters. And add more richness to your world with each passing moment.
    — Ralph Marston

If you have a talent, use it in every which way possible. Don't hoard it. Don't dole it out like a miser. Spend it lavishly like a millionaire intent on going broke.

    Happy New Year to everyone.

I saw this from earlier in the year and thought it might make some of you smile.
