gross misconduct..appeal

Y son is 22 has worked from leaving school. Goes uni part time to better himself. He and 2 women in there 50's were suspended in october as an investigation was started into alleged bullying of a collegue. To cut the story short alot has gone on alot of lies and alot of exagerations and bad management. All 3 have now been sacked. Appeals and grievances have gone in but we are now worried if he gets another job his p45 shows 7th oct as the date of leaving. Any one got any advice on how to get round this when giving it to new employer.

Can't tell what the issue is to advise.

  • I would be more concerned with what his reference will say.

They wont give him a reference but any new employer may not ask anyway. He has got references from other people so think that should be ok..the issue is hes told the agencies he Iis still working as worried If he comes clean it will go against him even though no truth I the matter.
  • Telling lies is definitely going to go against him, and most prospective employers will ask for a reference from the most recent employer. He needs to start being honest.

Oh right. I see. No, there's no "way around" your son's lies to potential employers.

  • Your son should be fine as 7/10 is not a zillion weeks away. Any future employment opportunities shouldn't be jaded by his last appt so long as his previous references are good.

Being hired and fired is normal in the job search game and your son needn't worry. He is young and has everything to look forward to so long as he exhibits the right attitude.

I have checked on gov.uk website and the reference can come from a work collegue so he has that and also previous employer to that. One agency he did tell wernt bothered but he has a few interviews lined up which he dosnt want to risk losing because of something that is still under investigation

Companies can prevent colleagues writing references for other colleagues if they wish. Most will to avoid situations like this.

A prospective employer will seek a reference from the previous employer, either from HR or director level.

Is the situation at work "still under investigation" or has it came to a conclusion.
