  • I've been looking on amazon as is my wont:D and there are a few.
This one appealed to me, but I wondered if any of you bento enthusiasts had some recommendations?

  • Hello, I'm a bento novice, but already hooked, I want moulds and little bottles and dressing cases , and .... just need to puck up courage to buy the ones I want off ebay - always a bit nervous buying food related stuff from abroad in case it doesnt adhere to the UKs strict standards.

I do have a a good collection of tubs (ok whever you open the cupboard door you are burried in them) and have started with silicon muffin cups as seperators, which i had to rescue from the bin today, because hubby thought they were paper when he threw the remains of DDs lunchbox away.

Starting slowly but the lunchboxes do look so much nicer.

DD has teddy bear sarnies, little saussies, grapes, cherry toms and a cookie tomorrow. Planning to get more adventurous once I get a chance to fill up the freezer when DS starts school next week.

If you don't want to order from Ebay, try japancentre.com
They're in London and although the selection varies from time to time, I have found them to be very good. Ordered from them on several ocassions with no problems.

I have a list of UK suppliers on my bento blog if you want any more info. I can't vouch for them all as I have only used a couple.

PM me if you want the link :)

I don't have that one but I did just buy these books in the past week:
    501 Bento Boxes

    The Manga Cookbook

    Small Food

So far I like them, though the manga cookbook will be better for my 11yo DD, as I feel it's aimed more at that age group. I still like it though :o

I got all these in my local Waterstones, they were in stock, much to my amazement! Usually anything out of the norm is a special order.

  • PM sent ;)

JC do carry them, stock is hit and miss sometimes. It all depends when they get a shipment in.
  • Thanks to arkonite babe's recommendation I ordered 4 boxes from the Japancentre, two egg moulds and some little bottles and the service was great and the kids loved them. ( and no-one took the p>>>>s at school)

In terms of cooking I have Harumi Kurihara's 2nd book and there is a good section on bento in there are she recommends other dishes that work.

I don't use them every day but they are great.
