Went out last night with friends and had budgeted £20. Chose carefully, drank soft drinks and then one of them (there were 3 of us) went and paid. Tried to insist on her taking the cash - we both did, she refused point blank and said it would be my time next time. Have potted the money (which I will probably regret at the next "night out") but am really annoyed as well with the situation. They both knock back the drinks and tbh I found the evening boring and I was glad to get home to my dh. If it hadn't been for the financial turn of events which has made me feel I need to stand my round I would be finding ways to get out of going. I don't want to be mean though - the other girl made a comment that we would be going for a bag of chips when it was my turn which isn't the case, but nor do I really want to spend £80!!!! Dilemma's eh...... sorry for the rant. I should be pleased I've potted £20!!!
    Awkward :(
I'm not sure what I'd do in that situation as you'll probably end up spending more than you wanted to. Maybe you should take them at their word and have a bag of chips!
Don't they approve of money saving?

£2 coin in my change just now so I'll feed that to Patrick when I get home :)
Oh and 20p roadkill! First in ages!

Some people just don't think about others different situations, I find that with my friends who all don't have children or longterm partrners. They all want to go away for long weekends to barcelona, spa weekends or a week beach holiday etc, I could go but have 3 other people to consider and I want to use my money more wisely as I ran up my debts from shear lack of tracking what I was spending/paying back (I refuse to pay interest on something now).:D

Potting, I went to Ald! at the weekend and managed to spend £74 ish, I didn't think that was possible and am extremely confused by the whole episode.:rotfl:I did restock my dry food/store cupboard so I'm putting it down to this, and all the salmon I bought(I can't help myself just now must be all the swimming training making me want fish).

Also took kids to spend their christmas money and use some vouchers I had. They both picked a small thing each, put the coins they got in change in their banks and asked me to put the notes into their bank accounts. They have either been bodysnached and replaced with aliens or I have mini SPCers.:T

I have £66 in my holding pot, hopefully I can get at least £50 into my pot. I only have a few swims for kids and bread to buy this week.:D

Good thinking, Rosy, living in the country I tend always to wear walking boots, but then I'm mostly in fields or on grassy footpaths, a whole different story if you're on tarmac or concrete! :( Apart from that, you should know best walking wise with all the miles you clock up. Our DS has some N!ke "air (something)"ones he swears by and advises me to get and with all the trouble I'm having with my left knee I might just do so.

Sams, please be sure to see Rosy's post above!

Saw it (thank you Rosy) I am much better equipped now, I have trainers and a torch for those dark paths. I am on the lookout for more serious walking boots, Dr says it will help my knee if I support my ankle. I damaged my knee in a fall and it just is weak now.
    Sue-UU wrote: »

You do that, Sams, and very well done. :D I'm so pleased you're here today as it's the first time since your planned walk home.....and as you'd not been seen I was about to launch a search with all SPCers. :j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j you get the picture. Did you do it? There's a message from Rosy for you about 3 pages back re trainers not walking boots. Have a butchers.

ha ha , imagine the search party! They wouldnt know whether to search for me, or just keep an eye out for roadkill! :rotfl:

I was prepared for my second walk home when my brother turned up to offer me a lift in exchange for a coffee and a chat. Have to confess I was slightly disapointed as I'd planned it all so well, but I got over it in about 4 seconds and leapt into the car! :)

Put my £2 winnings in pot plus 20p extra for company

Been living low after a hectic weekend. DS2 enjoyed his football party, followed by his family one on Sunday. All in all a success - he even managed to get 3 cakes out of me (thankfully only 1 was a catamaran!!).

Haven't been anywhere to spend and get change, but I did a sneaky pocket raid (again) on DH and gained 90p. Don't think he ever realises :T.

I will need to head out tomorrow, so hopefully will get some change to pot.

Hi, I came across this challenge over the weekend and thought it was a great idea. So, I've joined the forum, got myself a moneybox (now sealed up!) and put whatever lose change I had in it.

All I need now is to join and get a number please :). I'm going to set my target at £300.

GettingOrganised - that's GREAT WORK and so soon you're living up to your name, well done!

A very warm welcome, GettingOrganised and brettcta. It's lovely to have you with us. :grinheart Enjoy yourself saving, posting and joining in the banter. You'll find your number at the bottom of the list on post 1st post of page 1. Please read through post 1 as it'll let you know exactly what to do with the challenge. PS. We always empty our pots and declare our savings near the end of November, please make a note of this year's date: 27th Nov.

Please also subscribe to the thread by clicking on "Thread Tools" (lower green bar) and clicking "Subscribe to this thread"...or you may lose us! To put your SPC No on, go to "Quick Links" (right side of top green bar), click and then click on "Edit Signature" and you're away. ;)

*Please pop your numbers on your sigs, it really helps.

Ooooh, Ruth, fancy YOU being told off by your Mum for missing out on !sda cash!! :rotfl:Never mind, you did well with your savings and that matters most, though not to your DM! ;)

It's wonderful to read about all the pleasure you're getting from the thread, thatclaregirl, good to hear.:grinheartEven on wet days your indoor steps count - don't they? I'd make them do so as it can be surprising the amount you clock up. Keep up the great work, both ways. :j
Hoping to get to £100 by the end of March. This money saving is really addictive xxxx:j

It definitely is, princess-angelica, it's what gets the best out of us. :DGood luck in achieving that £100, if you can do that AND have all those Birthdays then you are doing GREAT!!! :dance:A very Happy Birthday to all your treasures.
            wrote:
I did use sultanas! And the pair of them moaned at me :rotfl: on the other hand, took half over to my dad (as hes still recovering from his bunion removal) and he was very pleased there were so many sultanas in it ;) you just cant please all the people all the time. It seems I'm getting a daddy score out of 10 when he and mum try it later, its gluten free so I don't think it will taste exactly the same but he cant moan too much, it was a free pudding after all :rotfl:

Now do I add the money from this into the challenge or keep it separate?

That's not what I said, jakes-mum! You said "could you make it without using sultanas?" (insinuating, I thought, that you were too miserly to use them in future), hence me referring to you as a [STRIKE]tight git[/STRIKE] err um thrifty person. :A Anyway, I'm pleased your Dad liked it, all the best with his healing. Why not include the other cash - it's still a saving. :j

£20 more into the pot from last weeks lunch money. Managed to carry lunch again for 4 days

Fantastic saving, Loveactually! Be very, very proud of saving it rather than spending it!! :T

Have a grand total of £41 left in the bank so have decided to add £40 to my car savings and pot the remaining £1 ;)

Will also be paying my pot this week for taking lunch to work instead of buying it - that felt really good before but have needed to do it out of necessity rather than choice for the last couple of weeks

A great job with the £40 for the car savings, Meowhouse, and marvellous lunch money savings!!!! Keep that up and you'll save a fortune!! Whether it's out of necessity or desire, you're doing a great job. :T

Nice work and super savings, superrhinos!

Excellent saving, Mrs Cheshire, and stay on the lookout for roadkill, it'll happen when you least expect it.

AlwaysHappy, this is your life and you have to be happy with your choices not those put on you by others, friends or not! Use little white lies such as "something's wrong with the car", "I'm saving so hard with DH at the moment, because of......", anything! Just don't spend money that you really need to save to make others happy as £80  is a bally load of money that you could do so much with. If the evening's boring anyway...white lies everytime! ;) You rant anytime.

What wonderfully wise kiddies you have, claireyfairy!! :A:A If they keep it up it'll be marvellous for them later in life when they really need it. The words leaf and book come to mind for you at times! :rotfl:

Oh yes they would, Sam, and you'd have still been waiting now!!! :rotfl:

I can see what you mean with the boots and weak ankles/knees, you need to go with what your Dr says then, he knows you best. I have a pair of Brashers and they're brilliant, but there are many good ones out there. My Physio's even said I have to wear sturdy shoes indoors for my knee.....but I love my slippers. :( Maybe I'll get a pair for the day time and wear the slippers in the evening. Yay, well I think so!

Oh love it, Hollygym! :dance:He'd have only wasted it anyway, you're saving him from himself. I'm glad the catamaran was successful and that DS had a really great time.

1 x £2 for the pot today, DH found it when cleaning the car. :D

Keep safe and well, all potters, and keep saving well!

PLEASE NOTE everyone: It's time to change your numbers! You'll see there are LOADS less names and numbers now, but it's useless having folk on the list that no longer save with us. However, if old members return then you'll be made very welcome and can still have your name added and be given a new number. forums.moneysavingexpert.com :D Please change numbers ASAP folks.

If you've already updated your No, please could you kindly make sure it's correct as I made a blunder to start with!

            Very many thanks indeed.

Haha, yep, I really am that tight, though I was actually wondering if it could still be classed as bread and butter pudding if it doesn't have sultanas in (my dad says no btw :rotfl:) the recipe I followed does have a chocolate alternative so am going to try that next time and see if it goes down better with the minions ;), oh and mum and dad said my first attempt was 'excellent' which is very high praise indeed from my dad, who's usual response is 'it's alright' :D.

25p in the pot today as DH and ds had to do an emergency potato run, not sure what's going on this year but they just don't seem to be keeping as well :(

Will make sure I include my 'pay back' tin in my total as well :) shouldn't need to open it any time soon as I now have 42 tins of beans, 20 tins of custard 10 kitchen rolls and 171 loo rolls in my stash :D
