Thanks Lillian1977 might do that ;).

So far I am trying to make my speadsheets more detailed. He is this months grocery spends so far (excluding voucher discounts) in % of total spend and £

Sorry it's a bit fuzzy but the x-axis is the different categories, i.e. meat fruit, veg, snacks, drinks etc.

I will have to spend some time choosing which of my many notebooks I will use for this challenge and then spend even more time thinking of the challenges. No.1 should probably be to convince OH that we do not need to add 2 ducks to our family which already consists of the 2 of us, 5 dogs, 1 parrot and 3 chickens :D

Chez, it might help to let him know that the rolling thing dogs do with fox poo, they also like to do with duck poo too! And duck poo not only smells soooooooo much worse (like you wouldn't believe) but it also gets easily under the collar when they roll.

Trust me, we learned this on holiday with our 2 pooches a few years ago in a quaint cottage next to a duck pond! The dogs couldn't come back into said cottage until we'd found a hose to get them sorted :( With 5 dogs I dread to think how much time you (or he) would have to spend hosing them down!

Progress so far today ~ having l/o soup from last night for lunch today and aiming for a NSD to boot!

Question - why do you not make a lump sum over-payment FIRST and live off whats left?

Good question, kat and I immediately felt my mind fill with excuses why I can't do it! I did it last month but had more to play with in November. I've already found that I have a request to pay for dd's milk + another party invite for her. Neither are expensive but I feel the need this month to have money in my account, esp since dh's moving of £1600 from the mortgage! That has really shaken my sense of being in control and on top of things.

I think I'm just not yet brave enough - or desperate enough - to follow your suggestion.

I'm trying to earn/sell stuff instead, and I may well have set the other budgets too high and reach Dec 31 with spare (fingers crossed and purse strings tightly drawn!).

Thrifty how on earth did you create that??? I want an all singing all dancing spreadsheet!!

You make a table and enter the spends (each field is the spend in each category over the various trips to the shops, type in =x+y+z and add after each shop). Some have subcategories for me but I only sum up the main categories downwards (so simplified it looks like that)

    meat veg bread
    5.46 2.45 0.99 SUM 8.90
    61% 27.5% 11% SUM 100%

Then you create a chart using meat, veg etc as the x-axis label and the SUM numbers as the y-values for series one and % as the y-values for series 2. Voila, two coloured bar chart

    Hope that made sense

Maybe that'll show it better (sorry big)

Ooh, I like the graphs thrifty! I'm a spreadsheet-aholic. Had a conversation with OH last night about wedding money, what we'll do when I finish my PhD if I have no job etc and he was amazed I could pull up figures for everything at the drop of a hat! However, sticking to the budgets is an issue and once I'm off the wagon I tend to go 'Oh well I'm off it so I might as well be bad!' instead of trying to climb back on.... :o

Last night/today I've batch-cooked extra macaroni cheese, a loaf of bread and some rolls, a week's worth of carrot and coriander soup and some hobnobs (the ones from the recipe on the forums round here somewhere). Today won't be an NSD probably, as I have to ice a Christmas cake to send to a friend and get some washing powder later on...

Right, off to do 'proper' work and resist the urge to make graphs in my budget sheets! Have a good day everyone. :)

    Thank you!
I can also relate to the once off the wagon scenario......

When are you planning to get married? Just wondering because you're saving for a wedding and have 9k debt which probably costs more interest than the savings earn unless it's interest free. But using the nearly 4k could almost half your debt and reduce the monthly repayments dramatically. But I'm sure you worked it all out with a spreadsheet, lol.

Off to play some more with mine
