I'm afraid if you want the luxury of your car you will have to pay for it. Have you ever thought though that the reason why public transport is so slow is because there are so many cars with one person stuck on the roads? if most of them now give up their car and go by public transport the roads will be a lot clearer and all who want to go to work in their car will get there faster.
I rely on public transport to go everywhere but if I had a car no way would I. The buses take twice as long, are dirty and smelly, overpriced. I hate catching the bus. I always feel dirty when I get home, theyre never cleaned and are absolutely disgusting and you always get some smelly alchoholic sit next to you. Not to mention the fact theyre not easy to get on and off with a pushchair and a baby, then when you do get on where do you put your pushchair or your shopping?
If they want people to use public transport they should make them more accessible to wheelchair and pram users, clean them and do something about the prices.
Im learning to drive purely so I never have to use public transport againWins so far this year: Mum to be bath set, follow me Domino Dog, Vital baby feeding set, Spiderman goody bag, free pack of Kiplings cakes, £15 love to shop voucher, HTC Desire, Olive oil cooking spray, Original Source Strawberry Shower Gel, Garnier skin care hamper, Marc Jacobs fragrance.0 -

I can drive myself to places there and back and petrol will cost a lot less. Met tickets are similar - £4+ to get to town and back. Also, now the pensioners have their free transport the children/students are paying for it, the 50p fare is now 70p.
Our day savers are £3.50 or £3.70 if you want an any bus and £2 for children.
Oh and from Markyt saying about the metro being closed for 6 weeks, it has been closed for 6 weeks and is expected to open at the end of September. Great public transport there.Work like you don't need money,Love like you've never been hurt,And dance like no one's watchingSave the cheerleader, save the world!0 -

Having a look at the goggle map overlay I wasn't aware they were going to charge to use the M60, there would be some type of toll booth or ANPR system just inside the M60 on all the roads leading towards the city centre, then another boundary closer to the city centre probably the inner ring road.
.
I think they will be using black boxes so one you pass the "zone" whether you go over or under the M60 you are charged.0 -
i think cumbrian male has hit the nail on the head! Public transport is mostly run by private business's looking to make the biggest % profit available. These companies don't run transport services for the people, to cut traffic, congestion, pollution etc! they fight each other for peoples business, which in some instances can mean cheaper fairs when prices are lowered but it certainly doesn’t benefit traffic in Manchester.
I personally would like to see Manchester city centre a car free zone, with the exception of a low faired/green transport system which would be accessible to all and run for the benefit of Manchester.
As for congestion charging! What a joke… that’s not an answer to Manchester’s traffic congestion, its merely a means to generate money and out price Manchester’s roads to people who can’t afford them. All congestion charging would do is provide a temporary stop gap and if anything like London provide a reduction of 12% of traffic on roads.
Congestion charging is not a solution in my eyes.
