It amazes me the lengths some of you are going to in order to not get out of your cars. LOL.

Fortunatly I don't live or work in manchester but just as an example if they were to implement the congestion charge here I would have no choice but to pay it because there really is no alternative but to drive.

For example if I drive to work it takes me 10 minutes or so, to do the sam journey on the quickest bus takes just under 2 hours. Oh but that would be in an ideal scenario where the bus came at just the right time for me but I work nights so it doesnt, I'd have to set off from work 4 hours early and not get home till 3 hours after my shift ends turning my working day into 18 hours long, and for the privilage of that I'd have to pay £4.30 a day. Plus obviously getting rid of my car would mean having to use the public transport to get anywhere which would involve lots more waiting around and cost. How can people be expected to use public transport with that kind of service?

It's ok for those in charge at the councils and government to tell us to use public transport but when was the last time anyone saw the prime minister getting off a bus on his way to parliament? Seems to be a case of do as I say, not as I do.

    Why should I get out of my car? I pay a good premium to drive - road tax @ £100 + per year + MOT £35 + Insurance £300 + Breakdown £25 + repairs = approx £460 fixed costs

and Petrol with all the tax the governent earns = £0.96p-£1.06p per litre (costs me approx £90 a month)
    = approx £1080 variable costs

= £1540 a year which is a lot of money to drive to work and back and for pleasure use, but compared to public transport I feel its a high premium I pay to have this luxury.

So why should I pay an extra £1200 a year to fund better public transport!!!

Almost as much as I pay in petrol, mot, insurance, breakdown and roadtax alone!!!!:confused:

The really daft thing about the charge for us is that DH and me share a car in the morning and I drop him off in old trafford and then carry on to Warrington where I work, then the same on the way home. As it would mean me crossing the zone 4 times to drop him off it would actually be cheaper for him to go in his own car. This would mean 2 cars on the M60 in the morning rather than just 1 now!

Before anyone starts about us taking public transport, there is no viable way from where we live. In fact we'd have to set off at 8pm the night before in order to get into work and would cost us more than we earn. We can't afford to live nearer to our workplaces and I've been trying for the last 3 years to get a job nearer to home without any luck.

In the MEN today, there is a report that Peel Holdings have pointed out that the council can pay for all the improvements by selling off the airport.

In California you don't need an M.O.T which usually costs an arm an a leg,

Which is why you'll find Californian roads full of deathtraps that would look bad in a scrapyard over here.

Think those heaps of rubbish on Pimp My Ride couldn't possibly be legally allowed on the road in CA? Think again.

No brakes? Not a problem. No lights? Doesn't matter. Bald tyres? Carry on my son.

And you wonder why the deathrate on the roads is so high in CA.

No its because they set off late, stop for a fag ect.

That's because they have to comply with drivers hours laws which are monitored by a tachograph fitted to the vehicle.
