Just another tax, and what will us brits do ....Yup bend over and take it up tha jacksy yet again, about time we developed some of the bolshy attitude that the french have.
Travel just about anywhere in the world and public transport is great, in this country its terrible, unless you live in london.
For me my car commute is 25mins and by public transport would be 90 mins with one change, and a similar time using the train. It just isnt practical.
Yes there is a free bus service in leeds, but not much use when it doesnt go where I want it to.

It was difficult to live without a car at first but now I've got used to it. It is possible but people who have cars don't seem to be able to see past their dashboard.

I'm not sure the bus companies will be very impressed with me dragging water barrels, feed bags and straw bales onto the bus every times my animals need something.

In that case I think it's OK to use your own transport but I think anyone who's using a car for comfort when theres a perfectly good bus (or tram) available should have to pay for it.

I've yet to see a perfectly good bus highlighted as per my post above.

Isn't is strange how when the Gov takes on an IT project that involves taking money off the people (Congestion charge, black boxes) it works perfectly and theres no overspending during development.

However, when they develop an IT project that should help the population (NHS computers, child credits, air traffic control) it all ways seems to go belly up, over budget and eventually scrapped.

    Somethings no adding up here...

Hurrah. That rules out anyone in Manchester - the buses are generally decrepid second hand things, with more patchwork than a quilt.

Well I've been there several times (travelled there by public transport from suffolk) and used a really good tram system when I got there

trouble is theres not enough seats on metrolink in rushhour so they cant cater for more users with the current system, the trains are the same people are crammed on cant sit down and so they will have to provide better services during rush hour if they are going to make it work, my hubby has just got transfer nearer home so that he can avoid using the car and incurring charges we now save £800 a year in petrol alone without the added extra they were gonna slap on and he now walks(20 mins) so if you can work nearer home i think that is the future there seems to be no other way unless you want the hassle! good luck however you make it to work!

The buses in Manchester are fab, its getting them to turn up thats the main bit of fun. I had to catch 4 buses the other day and each one was a min of 8 mins late one took 20 minutes to turn up!
