Yr 10 - work experience

But, if he didn't go he wouldn't be in school learning, he'd be on work experience. So how much he'd learn in school for a day is irrelevant. I doubt he'd learn more in a day doing WE in a place he already volunteers at than he would at Glastonbury.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0

He'd probably learn more at Glastonbury than in an estate agent's office making tea and photocopying, but probably less than in a GCSE lesson.
There's definitely a lot of people watching to be done, some personal hygiene challenges that will encourage problem solving abilities!0 -
It isn't cos I don't want to hear it - I know you are right - but it wasn't the point of the post. I know that I am being utterly selfish in taking him out of school just because I want to go and because I want to take him (though he is a more than willing accomplice). it is more that music is just about the only thing we have in common and we both wanted to go - when/if he goes later, it won't be with me it will be with his mates. I also know that when he does go with mates, he will be OK cos he'll be able to cope with everything as we have talked through and experienced various scenarios - including someone almost definitely spiking my drink at one point
My only consolation with the fact that he will miss a few days of school is that he has said that he doesn't want to miss any other school this year in case it impacts on whether he can go to Glasto or not - he has been rather unwell over the last couple of weeks but insisted on going to school.
What I really want to know is if school can do anything about it if he doesn't do work experience that week.
I didn't intend to be critical just pointing out that you were simply asking about the consequences. I'm so pleased to hear you say that you know that taking him out of school isn't the right thing to do. The trouble with threads like these (which for some reason draw me like a magnet as I have strong views) is that they invariably end up also attracting the teacher-bashers as you've probably noticed.
I believe there's still an element of discretion within schools as to how they apply the fines/authorise absence and rules vary from one area of the country to another. Schools are in an unfortunate position because they are marked down in inspections on the %age of absences. I think your best bet is to go in and speak to someone at the school, like your boy's form tutor.0
