I would say glasto as well, my sons school stopped work experience along time ago. They do a "career week" instead, where they do all sorts and looked at various careers and colleges, kids really enjoyed it and it was very definately about helping them focus on what they want to do in the future rather than just a week as an unpaid skivvi for some random company.

BTW My hubby is one of those lucky people who looks younger than his age, but even he was shocked when on his first day at a new job, when 25, he was asked by a staff member if he was enjoying his work experience lol.

    Yet Another Vote for Glastonbury!
He's already doing the 'meet & get on with grow ups' stuff, so just broaden the field of people he meets!

12 responses (before mine) all saying Go to Glastonbury - and I second and third that!!!

    Glastonbury every time!
  • I wish you were my mother....

Glastonbury every time...work experience is a total waste of times at that age. He'll learn far more at Glastonbury then making tea for a week.

Totally agree with everyone who said to go to Glasto!

I wanted to arrange my work experience through the air cadets to spend the time we had to do it at an air base. At the time I had my heart set on joining the RAF. All of my teachers and headmaster knew this. My school refused me and I spent the time at Barrets shoe shop I was basically cheap labour and was giving all the rubbish jobs. I was already working as a volunteer at a British Heart Foundation shop on the weekends and school holidays so I already had retail experience so it was a total waste of time.

I went to Glasto with my Aunt and cousins a week after my GCSE's finished and I had the most amazing week!

  • Glasto any day.

My year 10 work experience was a shambles. I put on the form "I don't like kids", marked the 'child related jobs' box as 0 (10 was YES PLEASE GET ME THERE and 0 was if you put me here I won't go) and got put in... an under 5s nursery. I went back to my head and she said that there was nothing else for me, even though I'd arranged to work at the stables I rode at on the weekends with my yard manager outside of school.

I really, really hate kids. I can't stand them. I can't interact with them at all. They tried to force me to read a story to them, and all the kids got up and left because I just don't have the ability to make 'Little Timmy goes to market' sound any more exciting than 'Tomorrow I'm planning to cut my toe nails before work'. Kids fell over in the playground and ran away from me rather than towards me for comfort.

I would say take him to Glastonbury, but I don't actually think you should have bought him a ticket anyway if it was term-time.
:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.
