British Gas anyone with smart meter?

An interesting study from last year into the amount of radiation emitted by a smart meter. Admittedly this is from the USA but I'm sure it would be very similar to our technology

""Smart meters emit less radiation than baby monitors
By Chris King | May 14 2012
SmartGridWatch continues to monitor developments regarding concerns over radio frequency “radiation” emissions from smart meters. A new white paper from the Utilities Telecom Council addresses this issue directly.
The paper was authored by Klaus Bender, a professional engineer and UTC’s Director of Standards & Engineering. His conclusion? “No health threat from smart meters.”
So far over 30 million smart meters are installed and operating around the U.S. Yet not a single person has ever been demonstrably harmed by a smart meter.
Bender’s article reviews current safety standards for radio frequency energy. It includes a chart comparing the RF output of smart meters to other household wireless devices. Smart meter RF emissions are actually lower than those of many common household devices.

Smart meter RF emissions fall into the same category as many wireless devices already found in the home. Bender found that smart meter emissions are less than those of wireless routers used for internet connectivity, and even less than wireless baby monitors. But unlike a laptop wireless modem or home WiFi router (which are constantly transmitting) smart meters transmit in short bursts during only a fraction of the day.
Plus there is this from closer to home

I found a gas meter substituted meter yesterday in a posh area of Doncaster and was struggling to get hold of anyone at EDF to be even interested. They run an Electric bypass set up from a contracted Revenue Protection set up, but are not interested in gas theft. Yet another house blown up this year in a house in Sheffield bypassing the gas meter. Its shocking to find that even when I discover these bypassers, only BG are interested. Scot Power are abyssmal as are all the micro suppliers. NPower ( I was told ) are the worst of the lot. I hope you have decent neighbours. You seem paranoid about wi fi, I would fear more your next door neighbours house catching fire or blowing up, there is more of a chance of that happening than you getting your brain fried with wifi
I remember reading about an Eastern European country where electric meter bypassing was a way of life and approaching an estimated 20% of the population. Thats what will happen here eventually. The trouble is, the stolen energy comes back on all the rest of us with higher costs
I refuse to believe that smarts are the only way to combat electricity theft and they should be optional.
I don't think theft of electricity is any more of a problem than shop theft. I think places like zara dont even bother with security systems as the cost of them would be greater than the cost of theft. Its probably the same with utilities.
Just because there are some dangers in life, don't think thats any reason to flood it with even more dangers.
dude89 - there are many conflicting studys due to vested interests and you can prove pretty much what ever you want in a study if you have the time, money and inclination.0 -

But surely public health England's report has no vested interests and has been conducted with no links to the industry at all?0 -
A teacher, or the prison, more and more ares are considering the legal use of cell phone jammers, it has been a necessity of our daily life, I have got one mobile phone signal jammer at jammerfromchina.com for my family. so if you want to get one, you can go and visit it for more details. share with you!0

Polly, please let us know where these conflicing studies are. Otherwise we only have dude89's one to make our judgement on.0 -

Actually I don't. I just don't like seeing people spouting rubbish with no definitive proof. As a lot of your posts have been. I asked you for proof. You said to google it. I googled it and posted a link to a study independent of the energy industry saying that in their opinion there is NO public health risk. You have claimed that this has a vested interest. It is quite clear you have a personal vendetta against smart meters but have only written information you would find on the the websites of those conspiracy websites. I have yet to see you post a link to independent report into smart meters that would back up your beliefs,
And for the record, I don't work in the energy industry. I used to a few years ago for BG but have not done so for over 3 years. I currently manage a catering business, though do like to contribute where I can to this forum using my past experience0 -

It's the same technology as mobile phones and there has been countless studies on it, some scientists think they are deadlier than cigarettes others say they are perfectly safe.
I didn't say they defo were dangerous so don't try to put those words in my mouth. What I said was there are conflicting reports.
You did a google search, post your finding and then come here saying i'm the one talking rubbish?
All i've stated is facts, deal with it.0
