How much info does anyone one want ? exact current usage in both hard cash and kwhr is the best point ,plus weekly / monthly use would be enough for anyone. Trying to say that these , inaccurate energy monitors are as good is laughable, and whats so special about touch screens. I hate them , my latest laptop uses it and my work hhc, stabbing away with a greasy finger at a screen is nt the latest technology in my view. As I say, every ones getting one in the end whether you like them or not.
So does it show the bill so far in ££££ as you go along just like in a black cab?.:T0 -
Yes it does display the cumulative costs, but it does not AFAIK include VAT or standing charge. That gum you like is coming back in style.0

I think my smart meter was displaying the tariff inclusive of V.A.T. and when it was configured to the two tier system it was certainly displaying tier 1 inclusive of standing charge. I `ve switched now so lost the smart so I can` nt say if the daily standing charge is displayed.Yes it does display the cumulative costs, but it does not AFAIK include VAT or standing charge.0 -

Ours has a green screen (the meter this is) so probably a slightly older one. The newer one is probably better.sacsquacco wrote: »How much info does anyone one want ? exact current usage in both hard cash and kwhr is the best point ,plus weekly / monthly use would be enough for anyone.
Current usage is all very well but unless you're an insomniac its not going to help spot whats sucking up your electric in the middle of the night -- something which I'm trying to figure out at the moment (likely candidates at the moment are Skybox, Fridge and freeze).
Nor does it make it very easy to see trends. How did this Sunday compare to last Sunday or the one before that? OK, so this level of detail is currently of interest to a minority of people (despite a majority moaning about the cost of their electricity....). It just seems a shame that there no easy way to get the very accurate information "out" of the meter without pen+paper or some over sophisticated webcam-number-recognition jiggerypokery.sacsquacco wrote: »Trying to say that these , inaccurate energy monitors are as good is laughable,
I would have agreed but my clamp-round-the-cable currentcost died and has been replaced by a newer currentcost that counts the red flashing light on the meter. It seems to be damn accurate -- or at least, it's as accurate as the L&G remote that came with the elec meter as most of the time they both display the same reading. But the currentcost has the ability to send the data onto any device you want (touchscreen or not :-) )./me0 -
You give away alot of rights to trial experimental un-standardised technology and have to pay more for your energy due to the cost of installing them all in return for a little clacky device that you will loose interest in within a week.
a great deal im sure you will agree.
they are partly installing them so that offgem will let them charge extra for energy due to the instalation costs that offgem have green-lit to charge end users for. it is in their interest to fit a devise that will have to be changed again in a few years, also at extra cost to the end users.0 -

Im curious about what rights I lose?0 -
The right to be a Luddite probably, loving the conspiracy theory.
Did I mention the remote controlled Kill switch thats built into Smart Meters? That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -

They give suppliers a great deal of control of your energy. In the future they could just change the law and disconnect you remotely without applying to a court or could throttle your enegy allowance when there are shortages to help them not bother upgrading the grid. Also if your sensitive to radiation, you can never turn the thing off unlike mobiles or wifi. They also cost a couple of pounds more a year in energy usage.
Also you loose anonymity as G4s use advanced mining technology to determine your lifestyle and if you forget to tick the box this data will be sold on.
But hey look into it yourself.0 -
